You may be able to receive help from the Board of County Commission (BCC) general revenue and grant funds. Grants go towards providing limited financial assistance to Seminole County residents who are currently confronting a financial hardship.   • Utility bill assistance
    Seminole County resident who are struggling with paying their energy and utility bills may be able to receive one time grants for assistance. Assistance for energy bills is limited to a one time payment once every 12 months.
  • Help for rent and mortgage assistance
    If you are in need of housing aid, the County Community Assistance Division can provide families and individuals with a cash grant that can be used to make a mortgage payment, or pay rent that may be in arrears.   • Free medicines and prescriptions
    This assistance program was created to meet the health care and immediate medication needs of Seminole County residents, including those in Orlando and Sanford. A doctor's written prescription is required in order to apply. The program will fill new prescriptions only, and will not pay for refills.
  • Emergency Food & Shelter Program
    This program is administered by the local United Way 211. Seminole County Community Assistance has tens of thousands of dollars to distribute to families and individuals to help them pay for one month of rent, mortgage or even utility bills The money is targeted to people that have experienced a unforeseen lose or expenses in the last 30 days. The applicant must also show they have the ability to get back on their feet, and the funds are meant to help with a short term emergency.
  • Health care and medical
    They also provide medical assistance and grants that can be used for prescription medications (it does not include over the counter or controlled substances), free eye exams and glasses, limited dental assistance (extractions, root canals, fillings, partials and full dentures). They can also refer you to other agencies and organizations for additional free health care services.
  • Emergency Shelter Grant Program
    This a grant program that is being used to help stop evictions and prevent homelessness in Seminole County. Grants are provided to pay for rent, utility bills, mortgage payments, and the applicant must also show ongoing management and the ability to keep up with payments after receiving the grant.

Emergency financial support and services

Christian Service Center for Central Florida Inc., runs the The Family & Emergency Services (FES) assistance program. This particular service was established by the non-profit to provide immediate emergency assistance (financial and counseling) relief to Seminole County and Sanford individuals. The goal is to assist those who are faced with an unexpected financial crisis or a short term hardship. There is also a focus on employment in the region, including bus passes, transit cards or cars. The primary goal of FES program is to help families maintain their residence and prevent them from being forced into homelessness, so most of the funding is for rent, mortgage, and energy bills. The Salvation Army of Seminole County provides needy families with limited financial assistance for bills and housing expenses, and also many personal items. For example, receive free diapers, baby food, personal hygiene items, back to school supplies or backpacks, and other supplies. Yet another option for aid is Rescue Outreach Mission of Sanford Inc. (Phone 407-321-8224.) This charity offers free food, emergency shelter and housing, gently used clothing, case management, counseling, etc. and other help to the disadvantaged, unemployed, needy and homeless in the local area.

Seminole County Prevention Assistance Program (phone (407) 665-2300) offers many services, including short-term case management. Christian Help, which is a non-profit that is located in Casselberry, specializes in helping families and individuals who need assistance due to temporary setbacks, such as job loss or medical emergency, by helping them find work and local resources and get by until they do. The agency provides people with job leads, resume assistance, job search and a basket of food at every visit, if needed, and referrals to other local Seminole County charities and agencies. Catholic Charities of Seminole County - Central Florida provides emergency assistance and support to residents of all religions and backgrounds. Some cash assistance and grants may be offered for expenses such as rent, utilities, medications, or food. However that funding is very limited, comes with conditions, and is intended to help prevent evictions and homelessness.

Community Hope Center / Harvest Time International, which is in Sanford Florida, runs a self-sufficiency program to support low-income and financially distressed families as well as the disabled and elderly households that live on a fixed low-income. The Seminole Department of Community Affairs is one of the leading government agencies for public assistance. The very low income, poor, and seniors can look into a wide range of resources. There are programs for dental and medical needs as well as housing and rent costs. The indigent can even get help with funeral costs. The non-profit charity organization Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida Inc. (phone 407-426-1250) provides both homeless prevention services and also provides financial aid and grants to people who are currently homeless.
