Emergency Services & Outreach - Newport News, Office of Human Affairs provides numerous assistance programs to individuals and families who are in a crisis situation and who need short term help. Denbigh United Christian Outreach, Inc. is a partnership and a collaboration of Christian churches in the Newport News area. They will screens applicants for eligibility of emergency financial assistance. Some of the programs they offer can help with delinquent utility turn offs, heating bills, food and other essential needs. A food pantry is also part of their services as well as the possibility of rent help.

In addition, they may also provide debt and budget assessment/counseling. They are also an employment/resource provider that has referrals and counseling. Staff will also offer clients with emotional and spiritual nurturing, and this is offered to alleviate current crises, provide short term assistance, foster vision, and support one's transition to self-sufficiency. LINK of Hampton Roads is a charity organization that provides help for the the elderly in Newport News, support for the newly disabled, physically/mentally disabled, terminally ill, and also programs for the homeless men, women and children in the community. Department of Social Services of Newport News - They administer the main state of Virginia and federal government programs for the region. However, they also do more than that, such as operate General Relief which can help families in a crisis with their basic needs.
