Free and low-cost health care centers in New York State.

Community clinics and government qualified health-care centers located throughout New York State provide free or low-cost medical care to residents who are uninsured, underinsured, or meet low-income guidelines. Services and eligibility vary by location. The income based clinics in NYS listed below, with links to county centers, offer a variety of care such as physical exams, immunizations, behavioral health, cancer screenings and more. The programs are given to people based on an ability-to-pay basis - meaning people with no money or insurance may be given free care.

Some community clinics also provide dental services, tele-heath services and other health care programs depending on staffing and funding. The healthcare centers are typically staffed by licensed medical professionals, including physicians, and support staff, while many may also rely on volunteers. Therefore the type of care, and number of people that can be helped, often depends on resources at the center.

If a clinic listed below is not located nearby or cannot meet a specific medical need, patients are often encouraged to ask for referrals. As many of the income-based healthcare center can direct individuals to additional programs, specialty providers, or resources available within their county or region, including charity care program from the Hospital Financial Assistance Law. Staff may also help patients understand public health insurance or apply for them. As centers often have staff knowledgeable about Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, and the New York State prescription drug or patient assistance programs offered by pharmaceutical manufacturers.
