Locate free back to school supply programs in Los Angeles. Charities, churches, companies and the government provide items to students from grades K to 12. Find free school supplies in backpacks, clothes, uniforms, notebooks, Chromebooks, sneakers and more. Find Los Angeles County free school supply events in LA County near you.

Based on the age and grade of the students, many items may be offered. There are also free school supplies for immigrants, applications in Spanish, and items for kids or teens from single mother or father homes in LA. What may be provided includes, but is not limited too, the following. If items are not offered, then try a free clothing closet in Los Angeles.

  • Kindergarten-preschool kids may be given free items such as crayons, pencils, construction paper, small backpacks, and of course free clothes like socks, shorts, jeans or skirts, and more.
  • Free school items for elementary kids in Los Angeles County include Spiral notebooks, Glue sticks, erasers, Backpack, lunch boxes, Pencil sharpener, glue sticks and uniforms.
  • Middle and Highschool students will be given free supplies for school including Laptop or tablet, Protractor, Binders, Index cards, Dividers for binders, Loose Leaf Paper, pens, Locker accessories, backpacks, planners and more from charities and other agencies in LA County.

There are many other items offered too. Each charity, or school supply event, gives aways items based on donations., Some places just give free gift cards or vouchers for low-income families to shop at stores such as Walmart or Target in Los Angeles. But the goal is to help as many students as possible from low-income families, immigrants, homeless kids or teens and others get what they need for educational needs.

Assistance League of Los Angeles
They provide free school supplies to students of all ages and grades K-12. Thousands of kids, teens and young adults kid the supplies they need for school. The main assistance program is Operation School Bell in Los Angeles County. Get free clothes, school backpacks, sneakers, laptops, notebooks and more. They also have information on scholarships, free textbooks, school lunch programs and more. Call your local school district in LA and inquire about the Assistance League school supply programs as applications are processed at a school district.

Department of Public Social Services’ (DPSS) Annual Backpack Giveaway
This is for families on public assistance. The main application number is 1-866-613-3777
Free backpacks full of back to school supplies are given away to kids from low-income families. There are items for low-income families who get Cal-Works or Cal-Fresh government benefits. Get pens, pencils, crayons, a binder, markers and other free school supplies with the backpack.

Salvation Army Free School Supply drives in LA County
The Salvation Army works with volunteers, companies such as Target or Walmart, and donors to giveaway free school supplies to low-income families. There are various events during the summer. Get free vouchers or gift cards, school clothes, notebooks, lunchboxes, highlighters, calculators and more. There are also Salvation Army hygiene kits, haircuts for kids and other school events in Los Angeles. There are multiple locations, and look for for Salvation Army low income help in LA County.

This free backpack program is for kids, students, and teens. There are free backpacks full of food, nutritional supplies, personal toiletries and more items. This program  will help feed students of all ages over the weekend or summer break, when the LA County schools are not in session.

Free school supply giveaways in City of LA and county
Each year many corporations and non-profits hold events. The times and dates vary. There are generally free school supplies for students from pre-school to college age. There may be everything from notebooks to crayons to tablets or Chrome books. Free school supply programs are run from places such as L.A. Care and Blue Shield of California Promise, Community Resource Centers, California Credit Union, Verizon stores, The Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club and others. A wide range of assistance programs is offered, including free clothing, school supplies, food, household furnishings including laptops for remote learning, and more. There are uniforms, backpacks, sneakers, pants, writing material, books and many other basic items for students.

Catholic Charities
Free stuff, including school supplies, or financial help, is for poor families, immigrants or migrants in LA County as well as single moms or women facing DV. Get clothes for students, basic writing material, jeans, underwear, books, backpacks or notebooks and other goods. Continue with LA County Catholic Charities programs.

Backpack Buddies partners with schools and charities in Los Angeles. There is a local affiliate of the national organization that partners with community organizations to provide backpacks filled with school supplies to children in need.

Goodwill Southern California

The non-profit provides a variety of assistance programs, including around education and learning, to help people in need, including a low-cost or free school supplies program. While supplies are limited, the back-to-school supplies program provides free backpacks to students in need from K to 12.
