Long Beach assistance programs.

Housing, food and rent assistance

Federal funds have allowed Long Beach California the ability to offer families more aid in their time of need. Help provided will include direct payment of overdue rent of up to six months, security deposit assistance, utility bill payments and even rent payment assistance for the current months rent due. In addition, eviction prevention programs will be run through the city’s Multi-Service Center, which is a branch of Beyond Shelter.

The main housing programs that are being created from the federal funding are the Rapid Rehousing Program and gap rental assistance.

The Long beach gap rental assistance program will provide qualified low income households with money for paying up to six months of back or overdue rent to help those in need reach financial stability.

The other rental assistance program, Rapid Rehousing, will provide up to 18 months of a rental subsidy for those people who are currently homeless or who need housing.

New centers will be set up to provide assistance, including satellite centers and programs through the Long Beach City College, Long Beach Unified School District, and other aid centers likely will be started in these difficult times as well. Call Beyond Shelter at (562) 436-3840.

Long Beach California Salvation Army, which is located at 455 E. Spring St. Long Beach , 90806, runs several programs including an emergency food pantry, and they distribute supplies government food. Bus tokens may be provided to people who need transportation assistance for work or a medical appointment. Help ME Help You is offered at St. Luke Episcopal Church. Call (562) 733-1147. Emergency food is also offered at this long Beach Church. They also partner with various other local charities and non-profits, and may be able to arrange a limited amount of financial support for the low income in the region.

 

 

 

Non-profit community action agency - The city has its own dedicated organization known as LBCAP, or the Long Beach Community Action Partnership. While direct financial support is limited, the office and the Family Service Department on site can be a great place to turn to for referrals and information on assistance programs. Learn about resources in the Long Beach area for paying rent, energy bills, and even Southern California Gas energy conservation resources. Homeless prevention and rental assistance is available in Long Beach California. Agencies use both federal government funding and donations from the public to offer the following solutions.

  • Tenants with an eviction notice, or close to it, can apply for assistance or explore moving into a new affordable home.
  • Very low income Long Beach families or senior citizens can apply for HUD section 8 vouchers.
  • Money may be issued for housing costs including energy bills, rent, moving costs, and general living expenses.
