Several charities in Long Beach California are committed to providing emergency rent assistance and other support to struggling low income families. They combine this financial help with advocacy on placing more affordable housing in the city. While funding is limited and provided first come and served to residents that qualify, there may be short term rent help or funds for other housing related expenses, such as for a security or utility deposit.

Clients need to be facing a crisis that they did not cause. Some examples of when assistance may be provided for paying back rent include the following.

-An unexpected, short term crisis such as medical emergency.
-Veterans leaving service are that are struggling can seek help for their rental expenses.
-Referrals are provided to government grants or voucher programs, such as section 8.

Federals grants from SSVF can provide rental assistance for veterans or their families. They need to have an income at poverty level, or 30% of the city of Long Beach Area Median. There is also  transitional shelter services, reintegration services, help in applying for VA benefits, job placement, and more combined with the grants for paying rent.
