Get help for utility bills

The local community action agency, Texas Neighborhood Services, which can be called at (817) 598-5700 offers utility assistance and cash grants for paying energy bills to people in the area who are unemployed, the low income, or the the elderly and disabled. If you are facing an energy crisis or disconnection of your utility service and meet the income requirements of the program you may be qualified to receive aid.

Get free food and clothing

Alvarado Helping Hands is a non-profit organization that provides support and services to low income and other struggling people who live in Eastern Johnson County Texas. The organization will help people address their needs. The programs they offer focus on the people who live in eastern Johnson County including Alvarado, Lillian, Venus, and Grandview Texas by providing free food, clothing and other necessities of life. Help for paying bills, rent, medications, food, and more

Another place to turn to is Operation Blessing of Johnson County. This non-profit organization has limited funding. When possible, they offer food, clothing, prescriptions, financial assistance for expenses such as utility bills, and funds to pay other bills. The faith based group ties to cover expenses that are necessities of life.

Johnson County Salvation Army runs programs that will assist the low income, elderly, and other clients with paying for their food, utilities and energy bills, housing expenses such as rent, clothing, propane, prescriptions, and transportation expenses. In addition, the Salvation Army can also provide furniture, access to disaster relief programs, snack programs, school supplies, summer safety camp for children, and holiday and seasonal assistance such as Thanksgiving meals, Christmas gifts, Easter, and Valentine's Day. Resources for the holidays, including Christmas and Thanksgiving, are available in northern Texas as well as Johnson County. Most of the aid is provided by churches and charities. The non-profits rely on donations, and as funding allows, they may serve free meals, distribute gifts, toys, clothing, and groceries. Referrals and other support is available too. Click here.

Another agency, Broadway Baptist Church, which can be reached at (817)336-7464 supports people in the area by providing clothing, free food, prescription medication, financial help for paying bills, and other necessities of life. They can even refer people to state of Texas and federal government assistance programs, and some financial aid may help with paying a security deposit.

In addition, the agency also provides seasonal assistance with Back-To -School and Christmas Assistance. Home improvements and repairs

Christmas In Action deals with home repairs, improvements, and updates. The agency provides for the refurbishing of the homes of low to moderate income homeowners. The home repairs and housing assistance is targeted at the disabled, the elderly, low income and families with children, so that they may continue to live in a safe, warm home with independence. 817-774-2022.

Free medical and dental care

H.O.P.E Medical/Dental Clinic is one of the top clinics in the area. It provides free primary care medical and health care services, limited dental services, well women and geriatric care for those with limited health insurance and those who are uninsured residents of Johnson County.
