Jacksonville Florida financial assistance programs.

The agencies, non-profits and assistance programs below are all focused on the Jacksonville Florida area. Get help with paying rent, access to medical care, utility and energy bills assistance, foreclosure counseling, and other aid. Many of the services are free to the low income, elderly, and unemployed.

Jacksonville Florida Northeast Florida Community Action Agency (NFCAA) - Community Action Agencies operate across the United States. Many are funded by a combination of federal government funds and private donations. This community action agency can assist low-income persons and unemployed of Jacksonville Florida.   • Crisis and Emergency Assistance Services - If you are behind on your winter heating or summer cooling bills, the community action agency may be able to help. The Jacksonville based community action agency may pay the actual home energy bills owed by qualified low income households and/or other necessary energy expenses. You can only apply once, and the exact amount of aid offered will depend on your need. Also get rent and mortgage assistance, electric and water bill assistance, free groceries and food, child care, uniforms, books, work clothing, transportation assistance, prescription and medication, and help for childcare.
  • Job training and education - They run programs to help people find a job, vocation training, employment; job training, case management, GED and scholarships, education; tutorial; literacy, mentor ship, and resume review services.
  • Energy bills - Certain emergency funds can be used to pay energy bills, and weatherization is a free energy conservation program that can help low income people save money.

LIHEAP Program - To get information or apply, the R.F. Kennedy Center at 1133 Iona Street Suite 212 Jacksonville, Florida (Telephone: 632-1462) runs it. The low income home energy assistance program (LIHEAP) provides qualified individuals with home energy bills assistance, funds to pay bills in a crisis situation, weather related disaster and heating oil and fuel assistance.

Emmett Reed Center is another local non-profit organization that runs the LIHEAP Program on behalf of local residents. While conditions for applying are the same at all locations, you can also try this agency. 904-632-1469

 

 

 

Mandarin Food Bank and Clothing Closet, located at 11730 Old St Augustine Rd. in Jacksonville Florida ((904) 292-1675), provides free food and clothing to Mandarin residents.

Jewish Family and Community Services - This non-profit charity organization provides emergency utility and energy bill assistance with paying for rent and utility bills. Other financial assistance and resources that can be obtained by Jacksonville Florida area residents include a food pantry, FEMA assistance, SHIP dollars for deposits, and information and referral to local charities as well as Florida and federal government assistance programs. Jacksonville Urban League runs the Head Start program, which is a comprehensive child development assistance program that promotes "school readiness" and can offer children, among other resources, health care, free food, nutrition screenings, early intervention programs, Parent meetings / classes in early childhood development, parents job finding services, Fatherhood and the Grandparents Initiative, and literacy programs for children and their parents. Jacksonville Florida based United Community Outreach Ministry, phone number 904-396-2401, is only a food pantry. There may be groceries, canned or non-perishable food, and other resources for preventing hunger.

Family Services - Get direct financial aid and resources. Programs are run on a referral basis. Get help with expenses and your needs met, including free food, rent assistance and cooling and utility bill assistance, counseling, referral and case management. Salvation Army Northeast Florida (address 900 West Adams St. (904) 356-8641 may be able to help with employment, education, transportation, clothing, job finding, thrift stores, and much more.

 

 

 

 

Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry/ Mission House - Apply for emergency assistance for your needs. Get help with items such as rent, food, groceries, cooling bills and utilities, clothing, gasoline vouchers, prescriptions and bus tickets for the needy. The facility is at 800 Shetter Avenue Jacksonville Beach, Florida 32250, and phone number 241-6767. Programs are for Beaches are residents only.

Access free or low cost health care at We Care Jacksonville, Inc. / Christ the King Clinic at So. Jax Family Health Clinic is a walk in free community clinic. The center is manned by volunteer health care professionals and doctors who work at the medical clinics and each provide high quality yet low cost primary care medical services mainly to adults residing in Duval County Florida. Jacksonville Catholic Charities Bureau - Apply for comprehensive emergency assistance. Some of the assistance programs can provide assistance with paying rent, utilities, utility and security deposits, food and basic necessities on a limited and short-term basis to individuals and families residing in Jacksonville. Applicants need to be faced with a hardship or emergency. Another service run provides energy bill help from the Neighbor to Neighbor fund. It may be able to offer utility bill assistance for the following expenses, including payment for past utility (electric and fuel) bills, reinstallation fees, initial set up deposit, plus amount for initial service. Downtown Ecumenical Services Council, Inc. supports those households with children, elderly or a documented disability or illness which prohibits work, and financial aid is available for them.
