The largest single pantry is Helping Hands of Eaton County in Charlotte, which will often around one million pounds of food to thousands of households per year. The Greater Lansing Food Bank, the county's Feeding America affiliate, supplies groceries to partner pantries throughout the county and runs a mobile pantry that comes to communities directly. But there are many other places for free food or a hot meal, as noted below.

The Feeding America-affiliated food bank for a seven-county mid-Michigan region, including all of Eaton County. The Greater Lansing Food Bank supplies groceries and fresh produce to more than 140 partner pantries, mobile distribution events, and community kitchens. It also administers TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program), which provides quarterly USDA commodity food boxes to income-eligible households. The community action agency for the region, administering TEFAP commodity food boxes for Eaton County residents four times per year. Income eligibility applies at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. Also connects residents to SNAP enrollment help, utility assistance, and other social services.

Free, confidential helpline available around the clock. Connects callers across Eaton County to the nearest food pantry, SNAP enrollment assistance, emergency shelter, and other local services.

Salvation Army – Eaton County

The Salvation Army's Eaton County location operates a food and produce distribution for income-eligible county residents, with fresh food and produce distributed on a regular basis. Bring ID and proof of Eaton County residency. Seasonal programs include holiday meal baskets and assistance with utilities and emergency needs. The same facility also serves as a clothing and furniture center.

Charlotte is the county seat and home to the largest concentration of food programs in Eaton County.

Helping Hands of Eaton County

The flagship food pantry for the Charlotte area and the largest in Eaton County, Helping Hands has served the community since 1982 and is run almost entirely by volunteers. Clients may visit without an appointment and can expect groceries, hygiene and personal care products, and referrals to other community resources. Serving residents with Charlotte, Vermontville, Sunfield, and Olivet addresses. Photo ID and proof of address required. Income guidelines apply.

 

 

 

Charlotte Assembly of God Food Pantry

St. Vincent de Paul – St. Mary's of Charlotte

Grand Ledge Seventh Day Adventist Community Service Center

One of the more comprehensive pantries in the county, this center serves the Grand Ledge School District including the communities of Eagle, Mulliken, and Wacousta. In addition to food boxes, the center distributes clothing including shoes, children's Christmas toys, bedding, hygiene goods, and occasionally small furniture items for those transitioning out of homelessness. Mulliken/Sunfield Community Food Pantry

A small volunteer-run pantry filling the gap specifically for the communities of Mulliken and Sunfield in western Eaton County — an area not covered by the larger Charlotte or Grand Ledge pantries. Operates several days per week including weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. Call for current location and what to bring.

 

Eaton Rapids and Southeast Eaton County

Heart and Hands Food Pantry – First Baptist Church

The Greater Lansing Food Bank mobile pantry makes regular stops in Eaton Rapids at the football stadium parking lot. Unlike fixed pantries, no residency requirement applies — anyone in need may attend. Groceries including fresh produce are distributed until supply runs out.
