Cabarrus County Free Clothing Closets and Household Assistance

This page lists organizations in Cabarrus County that give out free clothing, shoes, and household items to people in need. Most programs are run by churches and nonprofits in and around Concord, with additional options in the Harrisburg area. Some are open to anyone regardless of income; others ask for proof of residency or financial need. A few require a call before you visit; others are walk-in only.

The listings below include both the well-known programs and some smaller ones that don't show up in a typical Google search. If you have children, are pregnant, or are in emergency need, read through all the listings — several programs here specialize in exactly those situations and carry items the larger closets don't.

Concord and Greater Cabarrus County

Second Blessings Clothing Closet — Forest Hill United Methodist Church
251 Union St N, Concord, NC 28025. Call (704) 782-1109 | https://www.foresthillumc.org/
One of the more active clothing ministries in the county, Forest Hill UMC's Second Blessings closet provides free clothing and household goods for the whole family — infants through adults. No appointment is required and no income documentation is needed to visit. Beyond clothing, they distribute household items and seasonal goods. Open one morning per week; confirm current hours at their website before you go.

Our Community Closet — Our Lady of Guadalupe Hall
135 Manor Ave SW, Concord, NC 28025. Call (704) 720-0600, ext. 739
This is one of the lesser-known options in Concord and worth knowing about specifically because it sets no income or residency bar — anyone can walk in. Clothing runs from infant to plus sizes and includes shoes and small household items. Open several times per month on a first-come, first-served basis. Email [email protected] or call for the current schedule.

Baptist Sharing House — Cabarrus Baptist Association
117 Peachtree Ave NW, Concord, NC 28025. Call (704) 788-6507 | https://www.cabarrusbaptist.com/
In operation since 1982, the Baptist Sharing House distributes clothing and food to families in the Concord area through a network of local churches. First-time visitors are welcome to walk in without an appointment; returning clients need to call ahead to schedule. Open several mornings per week.

Harriet B. Stafford Operation Breadbasket — First Missionary Baptist Church
House of Hope, 212 Broad Drive SW, Concord, NC 28025. Call (704) 784-2581
This emergency program run by First Missionary Baptist provides both food and clothing to families in crisis, serving more than 75 households per week. It is designed for genuine emergency use — recipients can generally return once every 90 days, or sooner with demonstrated need. Call ahead to confirm availability and current hours.

Salvation Army of Cabarrus and Stanly Counties
216 Patterson Ave SE, Concord, NC 28025. Call (704) 782-7822 | https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/nc/concord/patterson-ave-se-corps/
The local Salvation Army corps distributes clothing alongside its food pantry on a limited weekly schedule — call to confirm which days clothing is available. The organization also runs two seasonal programs worth knowing about: the Angel Tree provides Christmas gifts for children, and back-to-school assistance covers clothing and supplies each fall. Serves residents of Cabarrus and Stanly counties. Photo ID and proof of income required.

Habitat for Humanity Cabarrus ReStore
The primary local resource for furniture and larger home improvement items at reduced costs. People may find low cost used and new furniture, appliances (fridges, stoves, etc.), and building materials.
2902 S Cannon Blvd, Kannapolis, NC 28083. Website: https://www.cabarrusrestore.org/

Harrisburg and South Cabarrus

GATE Pregnancy Resource Center
There are multiple sites. GATE is the most resource-rich program in the county specifically for pregnant women and parents of children under one year old. Free maternity clothing, baby clothes, diapers, portable cribs, and car seats are available — primarily through their education program, where clients earn points by completing parenting and life skills classes that can be accessed in English or Spanish. There's also an on-site boutique for direct access to items. All services are confidential and free. Serves residents of Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Stanly, and Rowan counties. Both the Harrisburg and Concord locations are open on weekdays, with Harrisburg also open some evenings.

  • Harrisburg: 3824 NC Hwy 49 S, Harrisburg, NC 28075
  • Concord: 280 Concord Pkwy S, Suite 119, Concord, NC 28027
  • Call (704) 455-5200 | https://gateprc.org/.
