St. Vincent de Paul assistance programs Wichita and Sedgwick County.

The Sedgwick County Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is made up of volunteers and churches, with a focus on the Wichita area. Based on donations, home visits by volunteers of SVDP, and funding, there may be free basic needs offered, financial help, dog or human food, counseling and more. Blessed Sacrament of Wichita as well as St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church are the main parish that is involved, but they are also made up on many volunteers.

Some of the assistance is offered directly by St. Vincent in Wichita, but much of it is from referrals. As the Society works with many local charities in Sedgwick County, including the Working Men of Christ Ministry, Guadalupe Clinic (for medical or dental), Interfaith ministries, volunteer car repair shops and others. Anyone applying for assistance needs to have a Saint Vincent member perform a home visit.

Free material goods from Saint Vincent in Wichita

Low income eligible households, or those facing a crisis, may receive free vouchers, boxes of groceries, or basic needs from Sedgwick County St. Vincent de Paul. Depending on what the family needs, and what has been donated to the free food pantry or thrift store, what may be provided is as following.

For school or work needs, there can be clothing, uniforms, or notebooks for children. This is part of what the non-profit does to help families gain self-sufficiency. When it comes to general household items (such as furniture, appliances, beds, or cribs) those are usually sold at the thrift store. There may be soap, detergent, household cleaning supplies, and other free personal hygiene goods too. This is a major focus – providing free personal care items. There is also the Giving Tree, which is a free Christmas toy, food, and gift program for families as well as children.

Wichita SVDP staff will also be involved in screening people for assistance available for state of Kansas benefits. While the pantry can meet short term needs, many low income families may be available for SNAP food stamps or WIC vouchers. This screening process will even include assessments for low income housing or emergency heating bill or rent help. Or find other details on public assistance in Kansas.

Staff from the non-profit provide the locations to apply at for aid and go over eligibility standards. When going down this path, people need to provide proof of Sedgwick County residency (lease/mortgage), copies of utility bills, documentation for at least 90 days of income, and proof of household members. So a number of social service programs are reviewed.
