Western Wake Crisis Ministries assistance programs.

Using donations and money raised from the thrift store as well as western Wake County community, WWCM ministries provides assistance to people in the region, including Apex, Cary, Holly Springs and Fuquay Varina with a focus on the western portion of the county portion. The faith charity provides emergency aid for basic needs, ranging from free groceries from the Mini-Grocery Food pantry o rent (from the HOME Project) and utility bills help. The staff from Western Wake Crisis Ministry also have referrals to other local churches and charities in Raleigh as well as a resource database.

Find financial help from WWCM for utility bills or housing costs

The Western Wake Crisis Ministries Crisis program uses proceeds from the community (mentioned below) and puts the money back into the region. It does so by providing financial assistance as well as cash grants to qualifying Wake County residents who are experiencing situations of crisis. While everything does depending on funding levels, examples of specific services include assistance with prescription medication, utility or cooling bills, back rent, and even mortgage payments. The Housing Assistance is offered from the HOME Project.

Volunteers from the ministry are trained to accomplish the greatest good with the resources available, by first assessing critical needs, and then making arrangements for payments. Any money provided by the agency will be made directly to utility companies, landlords, mortgage providers, or a medical provider. WWCM views helping neighbors as a privilege and a sacred endeavor.

An interview, intake, and assessment needs to occur. In order to schedule an appointment with a crisis center volunteer, call (919) 362-0657. Appointments are scheduled on a first come, first served basis, and funds are limited. Proof of hardship and documentation needed includes, but is not limited to, copy of current signed lease or mortgage agreement, Social Security cards for all household members, Documentation of the cause of the emergency, such as death in family, car repair, etc. Or for more details, find financial assistance for paying utility bills from other programs.

Another service is the HOME Project. It only covers the western Wake County towns/cities of Apex,  Holly Springs, New Hill, or the Friendship. This component has been providing support and faith based encouragement to Wake County North Carolina households facing a crises that may lead to the possibility of becoming homeless. Priority will be on the most vulnerable that meet low income levels, such as single moms, and the ministry will also support veterans. The HOME Project works to help people pay the rent or mortgage, and help them regain financial stability by developing a circle of social support and resources.

The Impact Coaching Project in Apex is a form of case management, mentoring, advice and job placement. WWCM offers this as course for teaching life skills and provide the tools necessary for dealing with the challenges that can stop people from reaching goals or improving their income.

Volunteer coaches/counselors from Western Wake Crisis Ministries provide clients withwork-readiness skills, including interview practice sessions and strategies, resume creation and vocational plan development are also included. Each student is paired with a mentor or professional teacher, who offers support and friendship throughout the course and after the student gains employment.

There is also a free to use resource database at the Western Wake Crisis Ministry. Families from across the region can use it to find free or affordable medical or dental care, information on prescription medications, get help applying for government aid such as food stamps or Medicaid and more. A wide range of low income programs are listed, free clinics, resources for immigrants or the unemployed and more. A major need in the region is on affordable (or free health or dental programs), and the WWCM database can help there too. Or find other free dental clinics for the low income in North Carolina.

Free food and home delivery from Western Wake Crisis Ministries

Food is provided from a grocery store like pantry or the Home delivery program for seniors, the disabled, and elderly. This provides support for children from low income families, and it gives them free food and hot meals, amount other aid. Also, the Mini-Grocery is a client-choice food pantry in Wake County.

The center is set up like any other food pantry in the city or county, and clients can shop and select their own groceries or canned items to use for their family, rather than being furnished with pre-made food packages. The goal is to provide assistance, including for the holidays, to those in need in the most dignified manner possible.

The Western Wake Crisis Ministries Thrift Shop is another option in Apex. It operates as a  well-organized store stocked with gently used, high quality merchandise that is sold at affordable prices. Everyone is welcome to come in and shop for shoes, furniture, clothes, Christmas presents, books, toys, and more, all shared by our generous donors. All proceeds from the Thrift Shoppe are used to finance the activities of the Crisis Center and the Food Market, such as the emergency financial aid noted above. In addition, the shop provides a variety of free items or gift certificates/vouchers to clients who are in need.
