The Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) administers the cash aid at the state local, using both local and federal government government funds. How to get cash assistance from WV WORKS

There are a number of criteria. In general, the government cash is for very low-income families with kids who also need to be actively working (or seeking) employment or job training. Another goal is to help ensure famnily stability, with a focus on encouraging two parent households.

Applicants to cash aid must have a total family income below the program's income limits, which is generally above poverty levels based on family size / number of kids. All applicants also need to be citizens of West Virginia. In addition, cash assistance in West Virginia has asset limits, meaning the applicant can’t have a significant amount of money in the bank or other assets.

WV WORKS has Job Training, career counseling, and employment requirements, all of which will be free to applicants too. The government benefit was designed to help people gain the skills necessary to secure, and keep, stable employment while the cash will help them pay the bills during that time. These services may include resume building, interview preparation, free gas vouchers for work or training, and job search assistance.
