Vermilion County Salvation Army assistance programs.

Basic needs and financial aid from the Vermilion County Corps Centers of the Salvation Army help low income families. The faith based charity will assist people regardless of their background or situation, providing they meet income qualifications and that the Salvation Army has resources.

Some of the specific services include Golden Dining meal service for senior citizens, information on the Sharing Program for paying utility or heating bills, Angel Tree Christmas gifts, and shelter. While there may be some short term assistance provided (such as those programs above) the main goal is to offer case management such as character development to break the cycle of poverty and people living paycheck to paycheck.

Children from Vermilion County can also get help from the Salvation Army services. They are a focus, as starting development and education early can end a cycle of poverty. Lower income youth can enroll into day or summer camps which combine recreational activities with education. There are also meal programs for students during the summer months, and of course free toys and back to school supplies as a form of seasonal support.

Emergency financial assistance – The Salvation Army may have some limited funds for assisting with bills, rent, and other expenses. There are also basic needs, such as grocery assistance through food pantries. For those families facing eviction or a shut off of their heat or water service, then services such as the Sharing Program can help with paying heating bills.

The Sharing utility bill assistance program is paid for using donations of customers and employees from companies such as NICOR and others. The Salvation Army can refer the client to the programs. Any money for utilities is available to households only once per year, at most.

Housing is also a focus with some of the limited funds the Vermilion County Salvation Army has. The resources will help the homeless find a shelter in Danville Illinois. If there is not one available, then the state of Illinois may have a motel voucher, and the Salvation Army can refer clients to it.

Rental assistance is available in some cases. This would only be for the family if they are facing imminent eviction and have no other options available. Any dollar amount paid out will be small and pay a portion of the rent, and the applicant also needs to make a significant financial contribution. The staff at the Corps Centers will need proof of income, hardship, and understand why this issue has occurred.

The Salvation Army of Vermilion County Illinois offers case management known as a continuum of care. This is combined with any financial aid, and the advice will help people become self-sufficient so they can increase client understand the root cause of their hardship, and find a solution to it.

The vulnerable can get help from the Vermilion County Salvation Army. There are adult rehabilitation services for residents that are abusing alcohol or drugs. Clients can enroll into long-term recovery for their substance abuse. There is also guidance for incarcerated women as well as men.
