Urban League of Palm Beach assistance programs.

Urban League of Palm Beach focuses on helping families become self-reliant. The non-profit assists thousands of residents each year with a wide variety of programs, ranging from housing to education and job placement. All sorts of Palm Beach County residents call on the services offered from the non-profit, ranging from single parent households to the unemployed and working poor.

Not only may ULPBC offer its own programs, but they partner with other groups in the greater Florida community. They all work together to assist the disadvantaged in Palm Beach County. Direct aid is arranged, and staff also advocate on behalf of people living in poverty. All of this is done in an effort to help clients gain economic self-reliance and Independence.

Housing counseling is offered in a comprehensive manner. The Urban League assists tenants as well as homeowners with breaking down barriers and avoiding either an eviction or foreclosure. Anyone going through the process will be provide information on, and applications to, financial tools and services.

The objective of the Urban League of Palm Beach housing counseling is to break the cycle of homelessness as well as poverty. Staff will assist clients through the services from the financial empowerment center, first time homebuyers workshops, housing counseling and homelessness prevention programs. Not only can applications be offered for emergency rental programs, but clients can get help from mortgage services and more.

Free foreclosure counseling is available from experienced staff. They will meet with homeowners to review solutions, and people can learn how ULPBC can help through the mortgage delinquency counseling. Services are both in Delray as well as Palm Beach.

First Time Home Buyers can get advice as well. Workshops will show them the ins and outs of the process, help them in locating affordable mortgages, and repairing credit. There is information on proper budgeting, pre and post mortgage counseling, and how to stay away from any future foreclosures.

For people that rent their home, staff can offer them tips as well on how to maintain it and keep strong relationships with their landlords. While financial aid for rental costs are not common, ULPBC staff may have some suggestions.

 

 

 

General credit counseling and financial empowerment is for low income families. Staff from the Urban League work with clients on encouraging asset building through the use of innovative tools as well as  increasing their understanding of financial literacy. This even touches on personal debts, such as from credit cards.

Assistance for the youth in Palm Beach is arranged, as that can be key to ending the cycle of poverty. Programs provide people with a safe nurturing environment, and it is for residents age 21 or younger. They can access services to help them establish leadership skills, improve their education, or build self-confidence. The programs provide positive role models, among other support.

Youth education includes many topics and sessions. There is help for SAT/ACT prep courses and professional development sessions. Clients can learn where to turn to for grants to pay for college costs, or lower interest loans. The staff will also help people meet and network with community leaders, and the Urban League of Palm Beach will even hold holiday programs, such as Christmas gifts for teenagers.

Many other services are arranged, such as for small business owners (including minorities), general job placement, and more.
