Tampa Crossroads assistance programs.

Assistance from Tampa Crossroads can help residents who are veterans obtain affordable housing and employment. In addition to that, other programs are also available for the disabled and low income across the area, including Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas County Florida, and the non-profit offers a full spectrum of care to the less fortunate in the community.

Help for veterans

One priority is on assisting the thousands of men and women who are veterans that live in Florida and that who served the state and country. There are specific services available for them, including SSVF, to help them develop skills and lead a healthier, higher quality of life. Assistance provided by Tampa Crossroads includes support for dealing with issues including homelessness, trauma, abuse, unemployment, addiction, and client specific problems.

The program administered is comprised of well-trained and caring staff who practice a holistic approach to promote individual client growth. After background information on the applicant's strength and weakness is established, an action plan is created with respect to their physical, mental and social situations.

Housing is available for female veterans from ATHENA House. The Tampa Crossroads resource was established as a secure and safe program for clients. It offers up to two years of low income, transitional housing. As part of this, the guest will partner with a case manager with the primary focus on increasing income and job stability for female veterans.

While residing at ATHENA House, assistance is offered for veterans to access certain government entitlements. They will get support in seeking employment, free health care, transportation services and more to ensure they meet their daily personal needs. Partnering with other local groups in Hillsbourgh County, including James A. Haley and Bay Pines Veterans Administration Hospitals, access is coordinated for these homeless female veterans.

In addition, the members from ATHENA House work with the main Tampa Crossroads’ Veterans Assistance Center to assist these women with job placement and help them access affordable, low income permanent housing. A combination of private apartments can be used, or in some cases public housing can be turned too.

A main objective at Tampa Crossroads is to lead female veterans and even their families to a secure, healthy, and self-reliant future. During any type of stay at the Athena House, individual and group counseling along with case management is available. These various life skills are taught to ensure women gain independence and reach educational goals. At the end of it all, they will ideally be able to find a full time job or have access to government benefits that support them permanently in the future. Athena House can be reached at 813-238-8557.

Various housing solutions are part of Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF). This federal program is run locally by Tampa Crossroads, and it offers its services to veterans facing eviction or that are now homeless. Using a combination of government grants and other support, the non-profit has made assessments and provided services to hundreds of homeless and at-risk veterans and their families.

Tampa Crossroads coordinates many forms of assistance from SSVF. They include Outreach Services, free legal aid, Case Management, Job Skills/Training Services, Referrals to Obtaining VA Benefits & Other Benefits, and more. Financial aid may be paid out too, and using grants, there can be funds for Security and Utility Deposits, Bus Passes, and emergency money for paying back rent.

Programs for the disabled and low income in the Tampa Bay region

Tampa Crossroads’ Vocational Rehabilitation Employment, or the VRE Program, was created to assist adults with disabilities in Hillsborough and Pasco County. Staff will partner with them as they try to find meaningful and fulfilling employment. The VRE Program works as a provider to the Florida State Department of Education and Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.

There are many services offered in the VRE program, and they include finding secure employment, resume creation, job coaching and support from case managers that will lead to a job. Each client is assigned an employment specialist who works closely to help meet the goals they have and that have been established for the individual.

The process is extensive. The first meeting entails reviewing educational background, goals and work experience of the client prior to job searches. If and when needed, transportation is provided by Tampa Crossroads to and from interviews ion Hillsborough County to ensure punctuality.

Job training and coaching is vital to the success of finding employment for any individual in the community. With the focus directly on the client, the job coach or employment specialist helps them achieve goals that are set. They will also be revising training methods to help performance while in the VRE program.

There is also in house training classes held across Hillsborough and Pinellas County. These will involve many different tasks, ranging from establishing networking techniques, honing interview skills, training, and completion of job applications. Other services involve tapping into community resources and emphasizing the importance of attendance, punctuality and maintaining a professional appearance while on the job.

Resources are offered by Tampa Crossroads across the entire region, including Pasco and Hillsborough County and the city itself. For more inforomation or referrals, call them at 813-238-8557.
