Sumter County rent assistance.

Several agencies provide rental assistance to qualified low income families in Sumter County. The non-profits and charities that offer help may also offer funds for a security deposit or shelter. The government programs in Sumter County that offer help with rent will also stress self-sufficiency as well as personal responsibility of the applicant.

Many of the organizations are based in the city of Bushnell, but some are located in other parts of Sumter County or even nearby counties. No matter where to low income family, the senior, disabled person, or single mom lives there is also a focus on stopping homelessness. A major part of that involves helping with rent payments, offer legal aid, case management, free eviction defense services, and low interest loans. A number of emergency rental and housing assistance programs are in place for qualified low income tenants or those that are facing a short term crisis.

This is run in partnership with Citrus County. Very low income families can get an income based housing unit or apartment. There are also public housing units, home buying resources, and other resource in addition to section 8 vouchers.

This is the local office of the community action agency. Much of the aid is case management/referrals, but the agency can refer clients to financial aid for rent, ESG grants, job placement, low income housing services, and more. They tackle all aspects of poverty, and also focus on senior nursing homes and accommodations.

Money for rent, utilities, and housing comes from the Emergency Financial Assistance Programs. The grants is combined with case management and self-sufficiency. In addition to the rent help or homeless shelter, EA also gives food, low cost furniture, and other assistance in Both Sumter and Lake Counties.
