Support from Southern Regional Service Intake Economic Self Sufficiency.

Southern Regional Service Intake Economic Self Sufficiency is primarily focused on supporting each low income family unit that can qualify for their programs. Case managers from the non-profit also encourage family participation in all areas of the services that are provided. Aside from providing clients with Information and Referrals, each individual has access to case management, family advocacy and specialized services.

There is assistance for residents that live in southern Wake County for addressing hunger, jobs, lack of affordable housing, health, and more. Presently, there are even weekly parenting classes and food pantry visits offered as well as access to the clothing exchange and educational workshops.

Rent / Utility bill help may be available. With the still somewhat challenging economy in Wake County and some of the rural towns, the demand for any type of short term assistance with rent, heating bills and other utilities increases each year. If funding is available, then Southern Regional Service may provide help, sometimes in the form of a repayable loan.

Funds are very limited. Appointments are needed too as rent and utility assistance is not provided on a walk-in basis. There can sometimes be funds for initial housing costs, meaning rental or utility deposits for new electrical service as well.

Households from the region that are seeking assistance for this expense need a copy of an eviction notice or disconnection from their electric company. In addition, they need to provide proof of identity, residence and income. If Southern Regional Service Intake Economic Self Sufficiency does help the struggling Fuquay Varina family, then any money is given not to the applicant but rather to the landlord or utility company.

The Economic Self Sufficiency Weatherization Service is available for households who desire to reduce their utility bills by making changes to their homes to increase its energy efficiency. Many clients to the non-profit are seniors, the disabled and high energy users.

The type of work that is part of Weatherization that may be available are noted below. Contractors from Fuquay Varina and towns in the southern part of the county can help with replacing smoke detectors, homeowner energy education, Testing, tuning and maintaining heating and cooling systems, Diagnostic testing, Installing CFL energy efficient light bulbs, and also testing stoves, hot water heaters, and refrigerators for energy efficiency and safety. They can also shade an AC unit in the home so it uses less energy.

USDA Food Surplus Commodities distribution events occur throughout southern Wake County County during each quarter. This includes the timeframes of March, June, September, and December. Distribution takes place on the first Friday of the month, and continues the following week at Southern Regional Service main office, which has a pantry as well.

To be eligible for assistance from the food bank or surplus USDA commodities, a household’s income must be equal to or below 200 percent of the poverty level set by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Both fresh and canned food items may be passed out by the center.

Advice and counseling is available from Southern Regional Service Intake Economic Self Sufficiency. There are referrals to Substance Abuse Treatment Centers in Raleigh, which offer intensive and regular outpatient services to adults who are abusing alcohol and/or other drugs, along with their families. Or those with the death of a loved one can learn about funeral programs for the indigent and much more is provided too.

The other program in Wake County and the city of Raleigh is the Mental Health Counseling. Providers serve adults who have encountered difficulties in life, whether at home, school or at work. All counseling arranged by the Intake non-profit is provided by licensed clinical social workers.

For disadvantaged, working poor as well as uninsured clients, there is referral to health care. This includes Medicine or Dental Assistance. This Southern Regional Service Intake Economic Self Sufficiency affiliated resource offers low-income clients a voucher to obtain medically necessary prescription medication and/or limited emergency dental care to eliminate pain. This program is funded through an Endowment Fund through non-profits as well as private donations. Applications are limited to Wake County residents only who do not have medical insurance.

The focus of the agency is on southern Wake County towns, such as Garner, Apex, as well as Fuquay Varina and other towns. For main details, the location is 130 North Judd Parkway North East, Fuquay Varina in North Carolina. Dial the non-profit at (919) 557-2501.
