Savannah and Chatham County Georgia Salvation Army assistance programs.

Residents of Savannah Georgia as well as all of Chatham County may receive help from the Salvation Army. A focus is on assisting families facing eviction and those who are currently homeless, and emergency rent, utility, or water bill help is offered. Or get free food from the pantry, Christmas toys for children, as well as back to school supplies from the Salvation Army.

A number of additional social services are offered to clients. Most of the funds come from the Thrift Store. Individuals will also be put into contact with case managers from the Chatham County Salvation Army Corp center to explore case work, housing, nutritional, or employment programs.

Salvation Army Chatham County Salvation Army emergency financial aid programs

Housing assistance is provided from shelters, transitional housing, and limited funds for paying rent. The Salvation Army operates Savannah's largest homeless shelter. It can support women, children, and men of all religions, ages and races.

The transitional housing and emergency shelter programs provide lodging, free meals, clothing, personal hygiene items, employment assistance and casework services. You will be assigned to a social worker for an in-depth assessment of circumstances that led to your homelessness. In addition, the Salvation Army Case Managers work one-on-one with each client to help them formulate a plan toward self-sufficiency and stable housing. This will include job placement, career counseling, and services such as budgeting workshops. There are many other housing assistance programs as well for the community to apply at.

Financial assistance is offered. The Salvation Army in Georgia tries to provide grants for utility bills, rent, prescription medicine and free food for families in desperate need of help in Chatham County. Hundreds of free meals and emergency food boxes are served per month. Volunteers from the non-profit will also visit lonely, hurting people in correctional facilities and nursing homes.

 

 

 

Emergency aid is offered from Georgia Project Share Program. Money can pay for energy bills, rent, utilities and medical prescription costs. Much of this assistance is made available in partnership with companies such as Georgia Power.

Project Share provides the struggling with medical care (emergency prescription drug assistance) and homeless prevention services (rent and utility help). It is offered to individuals and families facing a financial crisis in Chatham County.  A formal application process is in place for Project Share assistance. This will be conducted through a pre-scheduled appointment made through one of the local Salvation Army Social Service offices. Applicants to Project Share will be required to provide documentation of their household income, bills, and all monthly household receipts in order to be eligible for this emergency assistance program.

Christmas Assistance is a focus of the Salvation Army in Savannah Georgia. Kids from low income families can get free toys, gifts, food, meals, and comfort. This is offered to thousands of families and individuals from eastern Georgia during the holiday season.

Free counseling, medical, food, and school items in Savannah

Counseling and free Casework Services are offered to the unemployed and low income of Chatham County. Clients will work with case managers and create individualized plans. These will be formulated for permanent housing, employment and other needed services. The agency also partners with other organizations in the region.

For example, referrals are made to Union Mission Employment Training Center to help people enroll in job search programs. Other referrals are made to Savannah Counseling for people with Mental Health Services.

A medical health clinic is offered for basic check ups. One option is known as the Salvation Army J.C. Lewis Health Clinic. This location is staffed by doctors and medical professionals. Health care is available to the homeless residents in the shelter as well as uninsured people from the community. Whether homeless, single moms, minorities, or the uninsured in Savannah Georgia, help is offered. There are also details on other free Georgia community clinics.

Food pantries and feeding sites will also serve Walk-In-Meals. They are offered to the general public if they need help. Food may even be offered up to 365 days a year at some sites with two shift meals on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Emergency food assistance may be offered for those not already receiving Food Stamps through Georgia DFACS. People are eligible to apply for emergency food assistance with valid proof of income, photo ID, and proof of residency. After receiving any form of groceries/meal assistance from The Salvation Army one time, a letter from the state stating that you have applied for food stamps is required in order to get any follow up.

Salvation Army back to school supply as well as After school programs can help many children per year. Free backpacks as well as school supplies are for kids under the age of 18. After School is offered to students and children up to age 13 in Chatham County. It offers education assistance, structured recreation, a technology learning lab, music, arts, crafts and more.
