Salvation Army assistance programs of Santa Clara County, San Jose, and Silicon Valley.

The main Salvation Army resource that has been helping people in Santa Clara County is the Family Services Department. There is everything from free food to rent or mortgage help, back to school supplies, low income housing or Christmas toys from or meals from Adopt a Family. Many other resources are offered too.

The Salvation Army case workers will offer help under the direction of the Family Services assistance program. The organization has been assisting the low income, seniors, children, homeless and disabled in Silicon Valley California and Santa Clara County.

Salvation Army financial assistance programs

A wide range of emergency and crisis programs, social services, and financial aid is offered by professional and experienced Family Services staff as well as case managers. They are committed to helping low income individuals deal with an emergency and helping them overcome a hardship.

Not only may clients be directed to financial assistance programs in Santa Clara County, but the case managers will also work with people to enable them to change their circumstances and overcome the challenges that stand in their way. Social workers will provide free advice and resources that help them find a job, gain a new skill, increase their income, or transition into stable housing.

The Salvation Army in the San Jose region may offer many different financial resources to help pay bills or rent. Services provided can be rental and security deposit assistance, clothing, transportation, or water or PG&E utility bill assistance. There is also emergency food support, furniture, free hotel vouchers, and more.  Each center, church, or Corps center offers a variety of social services to meet the holistic needs of individuals, including spiritual, physical, social, and emotional. Most locations also have groceries, and find free food in California.

Free food, school supplies, senior and holiday programs

Each Santa Clara Catholic Charity Family Services Department houses a free food pantry that provides meals and groceries to the needy in their local community. There may also be hygiene or household supplies. Many of these food pantries partner with other nonprofit organizations in Silicon Valley. They will also work with food wholesalers and retailers for large-scale community distributions. These distributions will normally occur seasonally, and the scale and frequency increase proportionally to the need in a community.

In addition to food and grocery distribution, the Family Services Department runs seasonal and holiday assistance programs. They include Angel Tree, Easter basket distribution, as well as free Christmas toy & food distributions. There are also Salvation Army Mother's Day baskets, Adopt-A-Family, free back to school supplies, job fairs, and more.

Back to School Supplies - Each and every year, the Santa Clara County and Silicon Valley Salvation Army Silicon Valley hosts a Back to School event that helps low income families, the working poor and disadvantaged children prepare for school. Qualified school aged children can get fully stocked backpacks (with supplies) and school clothes and uniforms.

Other resources administered include Spiritual Counseling, Homeless Meals, Senior Services, Nursing Home Visitations, and Worship Services.

The Santa Clara County Salvation Army's Senior Center is sometimes called a home away from home for senior citizens and the elderly. This gives them a place to meet up with old friends and make new ones, enjoy field trips, games, and activities. The Salvation Army helps seniors across Silicon Valley maintain an independent and healthy lifestyle by providing social services and aid such as food, nutritional meals 5 days a week, a brown bag' food program, and much more.

The assistance is meant to supplement their pantry at home. The senior centers also run a wide variety of events, activities and programs that keep seniors active. In some cases transportation to and from the senior center can be provided by volunteers who work with the Salvation Army. A senior center is also a great place to get information and referrals to government programs. Read more on senior programs in California.

Homeless assistance is provided by the Emmanuel House. This resource has been serving the Santa Clara County since the mid 1960s, and the Salvation Army program provides the services needed to answer the questions of homelessness. The Emmanuel House provides the currently homeless and people facing eviction with a full range of services and advice, and resources can help anyone needing assistance to make the final move from homelessness.
