County Catholic Charities assistance programs Prince William County.

Catholic Charities provides material assistance, some financial aid, medical support and other services. Various churches in the county, including Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manassas and Mother of Mercy, provide everything from free healthcare to food, hot meals, shelter and other resources.

Not only are various resources offered to low income and struggling families, but Catholic Charities also offers a ministry and counseling in Prince William County. They also arrange legal aid for immigrants as well as refugees, offer help to new moms or pregnant women as well as other support.

Free medical clinic in Prince William County

A Free – Low Cost Medical Clinic is part of Mother of Mercy. Catholic Charities works in collaboration with local providers to address health care needs. There is the local Prince William County hospital as well as United Way as well as volunteer doctors and dentists. Together these groups try to provide free medical or dental care for residents who don’t have insurance and that also have a limited income.

The clinic is staffed by nurses, volunteer doctors, hygienists and medical professionals from the community. There are also non-medical personnel who volunteer there in an effort to help keep the clinic operating. Clinic hours throughout the month address a variety of needs, but it’s best to schedule an appointment in advance. Free food, meals and financial help from Catholic Charities

A free food pantry, including household supplies are available from the pantry and feeding programs known as the Saint Lucy Project. Not only does it provide some groceries and other goods, but it is also a place of relief for residents. As an example, some residents, such as the elderly, will stop by the center during the hot summer or cold winter months in order to get out of the heat as well as cold.

 

 

 

The Catholic Charities center can offer groceries (such as cereal, pasta, soup, etc.), it provides hygiene kits, snack packs, some basic clothing, and more. In some cases, free gift certificates are available for items like food or clothing from a thrift store. Another service available is referrals, and this will help income qualified residents find and apply to long term support services. All of this is available using donations and outreach to the Prince William Community, which is also part of the Saint Lucy Project. There is also free cleaning supplies and personal care as well as hygiene supplies given out to low income families.

As far as financial help, this service is limited. It really depends on donations to parishes including Sacred Heart Catholic Church. In some limited cases, a few dollars may be offered to help pay some bills, ranging from rent to utilities or transportation. Income and other restrictions are in place.

Counseling, immigrant/refugee, and employment services

Catholic Charities also focuses on immigrants as well as helping refugees in the nation and Prince William County region. They help settle people in Northern Virginia as part of Office of Migration and Refugee Services. To this end, they give legal aid, help with Green Cards, ESL classes, short term housing or food assistance and more.

There may be immigrants or people coming from war zones or other parts of the world. There is even a Filipino-American Ministry in Prince William County. An assortment of resources is used by Prince William County Catholic Charities to address employment as well as counseling needs, and this program is known as Saint Margaret Cortona House. . The client, who may be unemployed or just seeking advice, will be used to supply the client with latest job information.  In some cases, those seeking a job may be placed with a local business or charity (such as a Salvation Army thrift store) for on-the-job training at a real site. All of the services will help enhance career advancement, and there are also free government workforce investment programs,. Clients include the following:

Low income adults.
Unemployed and dislocated workers.
Senior citizens looking to reenter the workforce.

Services include classes to help identify interest and aptitudes and assist clients with resume preparation. Using government grants in northern Virginia, there may be financial aid offered as well, including assistance with books, tuition, fees, clothing, life skills classes, and other training related costs. The non-profit will also help people relocate to another community outside of Prince William County for a job, if this is the best option for them in their situation.
