Help with rent and housing in Porter County.

A number of organizations in Porter County provide rental, security deposit, and housing assistance. There may be grants or loans from charities, township trustees, churches, or the state. Free legal defense can also be used to stop evictions, and when combined with emergency rent assistance, many low income families can avoid homelessness.

Not only can funds be used to pay back rent or utility bills (to stop homelessness), but there are also transitional housing programs and homeless shelters in Valparaiso. Another place to get assistance is from the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program (HCV) or legal aid for housing court. There are a number of financial resources in Porter County for stopping evictions, as noted below. The non-profit partners with the local town governments. Multiple churches are part of First Contact. Get emergency financial help (including for rent), furniture, counseling, and other assistance. Short term housing – homeless shelters in Port County

Each of the organizations listed below is short term housing. They often have a place to sleep, legal aid for victims of violence, and other resources. Many help homeless people eventually settle, including referrals to rent deposit programs, employment, and rapid rehousing.
