Free school supplies in Hillsborough or Pinellas County

Charities, churches and companies provide free school supplies to kids in the Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater Florida area. Low-income parents, single moms and people with no money and students from pre-school to grade 12 can get the educational stuff they need. Find free back to school supply programs near you in Pinellas and Hillsborough County.

The items given away vary by charity and event. The free school supplies, clothes, electronics and gift cards include the following.

  • Clothes for kids, including sneakers, backpacks for students, jeans, belts, dresses, and school uniforms.
  • Students in the Tampa and St. Peterburg area can get free electronics, such as Chromebooks, calculators, tablets, and other goods. There are also iPhones from the government.
  • Free backpacks full of everyday school supplies, based on age. This can be crayons, paper, notebooks, pens, highlighters, compasses, markets and other material.
  • Charities and volunteers in Hillsborough County and Tampa Bay also address hygiene needs, such as give students free haircuts and toiletries or provide free lunchboxes or food.
  • Some low-income parents will be given free gift cards or vouchers to shop for supplies.

All the organizations that hold free school supply bashes or events for kids vary in what is offered each year, so programs change. Tampa Bay, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater area free school supply giveaways

Hillsborough Education Foundation and Pinellas Education Foundation
Each year the non-profit foundation holds a free school supply drive, with kids (as well as teachers) about the get the items they need for the school year. Low-income parents, the homeless, and veterans can get uniforms, free school backpacks, lunchboxes, shorts, and other items for kids of all grades.

There are also Scholarships programs, digital resources, information on early childhood development or learning and more. Examples include Jump Start Scholarships, items for technical school and other support for students of all ages. They support all of Hillsborough County. There are free school supplies given out, a low cost thrift store, financial help, and more. Parents will get clothes for their kids, including backpacks, or use the Family Support Centers for help.

Hands Across the Bay

An annual back to school supply even takes places for students from grades K-12. They operate the low-income assistance programs for all of the Tampa Bay area (Pinellas and Hillsborough County) out of the Donation and Empowerment Center. Free backpacks are given out full of supplies, with the items provided based on grade of the kid.

Teachers are a focus of the school supply supply event. Teachers can get free paper, textbooks, pecs or pencils, gift cards for shopping at Target or Wal-Mart, and other support. The non-profit will help keeping classrooms in public schools stocked.

Tampa YMCA
There are several locations in the region that give out free school supplies to low-income families, single mothers, and the unemployed. They use partnerships to provide support, including with the Hillsborough Education Foundation. Other programs for students include after school care, health and wellness, food and more.

Salvation Army of the region
There are multiple locations in Pinellas County, Clearwater, Tampa, and the other parts of Hillsborough County. Get everything from free back to school supplies to food, summer camp for kids, hygiene kits, and even money to help pay bills. Palm River Point Inc

They have an annual back to school supply bash (giveaway). There is a backpacks with free school supplies as well as food, dental and medical care for kids. The backpacks will have free supplies for students such as Notebook/Filler Paper, Pencil Sharpeners, Scissors and other goods.

The Resource Empowerment Centre

The non-profit helps adults who need education or employment as well as kids. Free school supplies are for students age 5 to 17, with an event taking place one day per year.

Pinellas Opportunity Council
The non-profit has a number of low-income assistance programs, including around education and school assistance. There is Family Development, which also arranges free financial literacy for kids or parents. Low-income families, the homeless and poor can get free stuff for their kids, including school supplies, clothes, help with immunizations and more. There are also summer programs to help feed students during the breaks.

Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center

A Back-to-School event is held. They help students of all ages and genders with backpacks full of supplies, eye exams, clothes from the Kids Boutique clothing closets and other services. United Way of Tampa Bay - St Pete’s and the region
There are many other back to school events helps. Parks and Recreation, Radio Stations, the Pinellas County libraries and other groups (as well as corporations) both collect school supplies and then give them away to students from kindergarten to high school age.
