Pensacola, Escambia and Santa Rosa County Salvation Army assistance programs.

Residents that live in Santa Rosa or Escambia County Florida can contact the Salvation Army. The non-profit administers several social services for low income families. This can include emergency assistance for basic needs such as rent, utility bills, food, clothing, and housing. Other resources include workshops and case management for people looking to get back on their feet and gain self-sufficiency.

Utility bill assistance is offered for different power methods and types of service. For example, by the Salvation Army helping families in a crisis maintain their air conditioner during the summer, water or electric service, this brings light and happiness to them. This can also ensure families with children or senior citizens in Pensacola are not placed into life threatening conditions as the lack of power can sometimes do. Financial aid is generally focused on people who would be self-sufficient but are faced with an unexpected crisis. The Salvation Army seeks to help struggling families in Escambia County Florida maintain these basic amenities.

Shelter, rent, and other housing assistance may be available. Sometimes those individuals who are not currently homeless need a hand staying in their current apartment or home. So funds may be issued for paying rent or, if needed, temporary housing may be provided in Florida by The Salvation Army. The non-profit will render the financial assistance needed to help families and individuals people maintain their current shelter.

Another option is Emergency/Transitional Shelter. This will both house and assists adult men, children and women who need a temporary place to stay. They will also get support on eventually leaving this short term housing situation.

Family Stores sell affordable, gently used clothing, household items, personal goods and furniture to the community at large, regardless of someone’s income. The money raised by selling items in the Salvation Army thrift store is used to pay for the local and regional assistance programs.

Food assistance programs, including groceries and hot meals, are offered by the Salvation Army and nearby soup kitchens. The resources are offered in an effort to assist struggling families and help them keep healthy food on their table. In addition, homeless and other people are always welcome to take advantage of the food assistance provided through Pensacola Salvation Army soup kitchens.

Community Care members and volunteers provide monthly, weekly, and seasonal visits to Veterans Administration Medical Centers, local hospitals, nursing homes, and even private residences. They also partner with free community clinics for health care needs. The Salvation Army members also conduct recreational and spiritual activities as part of these visits. When possible, material assistance (such as a meal, clothing or gift) is given.

Holiday events and assistance includes Thanksgiving/Christmas meals, which are delivered to those in need, shut-ins, and even seniors in nursing homes. Oftentimes a gift is provided too. In general, families and their children experiencing the holiday can provide them with an opportunity for tradition and joy. Even during these difficult economic times, celebrating Christmas customs may provide a sense of relief and peace. So gifts, toys, clothing, and general support is administered. Were it not for the Angel Tree and other free holiday programs, many children from low income and poor families would be without toys to open at Christmastime.

Disaster Response is always available. This can provide both comfort and hope in times of natural or man-made disasters. Short term material assistance may be provided too.

The Salvation Army in Pensacola offers other social services and assistance to those in need in both Santa Rosa County and Escambia County. These other resources may be able to assist working people who are ordinarily financially stable and could pay their own bills, but have experienced a hard time. Some of these other services can include Budgeting Classes, Prescription Medicine, Clothing, and Employment Counseling. There are also various drug and alcohol abuse programs for those who need it.
