Panola and Lafayette County assistance programs.

Low income families and households that are in a crisis, and that live in Panola or Lafayette County Mississippi, can get assistance in their time of need. All across the region are churches, charities, and government agencies that offer financial help and social services.

Interfaith Compassion Ministry only covers Lafayette County, with a focus on basic needs. The faith based charity may be able to provide items such as free food or clothes from its center in Oxford, MS 38655 at 904 North Lamar Boulevard. Other basic needs may be medical equipment to loan out such as a wheelchair or crutches.

On occasion, the ministry may offer financial aid. This is limited and will only be a small amount of money. Everything from grants to pay rent to cooling or electric bills, gasoline vouchers, and more. Seasonal programs, such as Christmas meals and toys for kids, many also be arranged by the Interfaith Compassion Ministry. Phone (662) 281-1002.

Lift Community Action Agency and Oxford centers – Most of what they have information on is government assistance programs, such as Head Start or LIHEAP, as well as employment resources. The non-profit works with clients to help them get gainful employment, exit poverty, and become self-sufficient. The agency can be a great place to be linked to other benefits as well, such as SNAP food stamps, section 8 housing or SSI disability too. Case managers from Lift are an effective resource. Mid State Community Action Agency Of Panola is located at 1545 Industrial Park Road. There are four main assistance programs run by this non-profit. They include the following.

  • -LIHEAP, or the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, is effective for paying utility bills. Seniors, parents or single moms with kids, and the disabled are the main beneficiaries. LIHEAP can even help people with no money turn on their electric.
  • Mid-State also operates weatherization, which is the primary energy conservation program in Panola County.

 

 

 

  • -CSBG, or Community services block grants, is provided by the non-profit using federal government funds. There may be money, or even loans, to help with everything from work supplies/clothing to housing, security deposits, or transportation costs.
  • -CF&N-Community Food and Nutrition Program can help feed senior citizens and children.

Food programs and distribution centers

Oxford Food Pantry – The charity can provide help to the needy at most twice per year, with more assistance available for people over the age of 65 or the disabled. Groceries are provided by the USDA. There may also be special Thanksgiving and Christmas meal baskets. The Lafayette County pantry is at 713 Molly Barr Road, Oxford, MS 38655. Crenshaw Interested Community – Address is 813 Jones Street Crenshaw, MS 38621. Dial 662.382.5391.

Hope Ministries is another local church at 110 N Robinson in Senatobia. Not only may there may emergency boxes of food for the working poor as well as unemployed, but clothes, hygiene supplies, Christmas toys, and advice is given too. Phone – 662-562-4673.

 

 

 

Community clinics for both Panola and Lafayette

Aaron Henry Community Health Center – Location is 216 Highway 51, Batesville, MS 38606. A sliding fee clinic that offers general medical care. They also accept insurance such as Medicare or Medicaid, which can help patients from running up debts. Senior citizens over the age of 60 can get a ride as well. Dial (662) 563-1858 for intake.

Tri Lakes Surgery Clinic is a federal government certified rural health clinic. They help the poor, indigent, and people without insurance. Some minimal fees may be required for the medical bills. Services range from low cost prescription drugs to eye care, glasses, dental cleanings from volunteers and more. The center is at 303 Medical Center Drive in Batesville, Mississippi 38606. Children Clinic Oxford support children as well as babies/newborns in Lafayette County as well as the city of Oxford. Phone (662) 234-8286.

Oxford Medical Ministries Clinic – Doctors, nurses, and volunteers provide holistic medical care from the clinic at 205 South Commerce Cove in Oxford. There is both urgent and preventative health care provided, including physicals, check ups, lab work, and more. When needed, the staff can also offer patients information on medical debt consolidation programs. Phone - (662) 234-1374.

Toccopola Family Medical Clinic is another regional Certified Rural Health Clinic. Free or low cost health care can help patients save money on their medical bills. Location is 7908 Highway 334, Toccopola, Mississippi 38874. Dial (662) 281-8003.
