Onondaga County free clothing closets, furniture and thrift stores.

Families in need across Onondaga County can turn to a clothing closet or furniture bank for free or low cost goods, including clothes, diapers, furniture, winter attire, back to school supplies and more. Many of the locations also partner with thrift stores, or maybe they run one of those centers at the same time. Find charities and non-profits that run these distribution sites in the Syracuse area. They provide donated clothing, free school uniforms or supplies, work attire, linens, bedroom or living room furniture and maybe small appliances to eligible individuals.

A team of volunteers work at many of these clothing closets, most of which are in the city of Syracuse. They not only offer support from the center but the staff often also partner with county as well as city officials to coordinate support across Syracuse and the County. This can range from referrals to benefits to emergency supplies from a thrift store in a disaster. They also work with local school districts to provide students with shoes, bookbags, back packs, and other free school items. Free furniture banks in Onondaga County are also partner agencies.

There are a few times of the year that end to more more challenging for low income families, and this can be the winter months or back to school season. Also, new parents often struggle with increased expenses too. During those periods the centers may offer assistance such as school supplies, winter coats for children, diapers, or goods for other critical needs.
