Free holiday and Christmas assistance programs Omaha area.

Charities in the Omaha Nebraska area provide assistance to low income families during the holidays. They can help parents apply for free Christmas toy or gift programs for their children, offer hot meals to families living in poverty, and help ensure senior citizens and the homebound have a Christmas or even Thanksgiving meal delivered to them. Various volunteer organizations across Douglas and Sarpy Counties administer these holiday services, including Toys for Tots, free holiday food boxes and Angel Tree.

When applying to one of these organizations, they will require documentation from the family. The number of Christmas presents to pass out is limited, so the charities that offer these resources do their best to ensure it goes to those that most need it. Kids, children of single moms and struggling households may be given free presents, clothes, books, Legos, sporting goods, and more.

  • Applicants should bring proof of residency, income, any government benefits and driver's license.
  • The Omaha household needs details on their children as well, such as a birth certificate.

Other information may be needed too. If approved, the charity may offer a free holiday present. It may be a game, article of clothing, or some other toy that the child can open on Christmas morning. Note that many of these Omaha agencies also offer free food baskets, including at Thanksgiving.
