Medications and free insulin from Novo Nordisk Patient Assistance Program.

The Novo Nordisk Patient Assistance Program (PAP), which is part of the pharmaceutical companies NoveCare financial resources, is designed for people living with diabetes or that have other medical needs. A major focus is on providing free or affordable insulin to diabetic patients. However the drug company may also offer other payment plans, discounts and other medications to the low-income as well as uninsured.

Insulin and other medication will be provided at no charge to those who qualify. Novo Nordisk also offers plans that provide a fixed monthly, affordable rate for insulin, pens, testing strips and other supplies. This diabetes assistance program is even for moderate income households. Among the products provided are RYBELSUS® tablets, a variety of injection pens, hypo kits and disposable needles.

Details on PAP from Novo Nordisk

To be eligible, a person must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident with a household income at or below 400% of the federal poverty level. For a one-person household, that figure is under $60,000 per year, but the income cut-office increased based on if the household has children or other members. A major focus is on providing financial assistance or free services to the elderly, seniors, and disabled.

The Novo Nordisk PAP is intended to help those people whose health insurance plan will not pay for their insulin or medications. To this end, the applicant cannot have prescription drug insurance other than Medicare Part D coverage. Persons eligible for programs such as VA benefits or a government low-income subsidy will not be accepted. Applicants eligible for Medicaid must declare on the application that they are not enrolled in or plan to enroll in Medicaid..

The application, which is on the Novo Nordisk PAP website, and proof of income should be given to the applicant's healthcare provider (doctor, clinic, or other medical professional) who must complete the Prescriber and Rx sections of the application. The completed form and income proof can be mailed or faxed to Novo Nordisk. Faxes must be sent from the health care provider's office or pharmacy as well.

Free medications or insulin may be provided in an emergency too. Properly completed applications will be processed by Novo Nordisk within two days if all required information has been provided. Both the health care provider and the applicant will be notified of the decision. If approved, a 90-day supply of insulin, diabetes supplies like pens, etc. or other medication will be sent to the health care provider's office. The Novo Nordisk Patient Assistance Program will send out the supplies within 14 business days to be given to the patient. Medications are not mailed directly to the patient or a pharmacy.

Uninsured patients are enrolled in the program for 12 months and can submit a new application to the PAP to continue benefits. Low-income patients should reapply 30 days before the enrollment period ends. Medicare patients are enrolled until the end of the calendar year and can reapply for benefits after October 15th.

Automatic refills are allowed by the PAP from Novo Nordisk  for most medication, which can be a huge benefit for people with a disability or the elderly who may lack transportation. Auto-refills are managed by the person prescribing the medication and will terminate at the end of the patient's enrollment period. The company also has information on other programs for cheap insulin.

Applying to Patient Assistance Program from Novo Nordisk

The application form can be downloaded from the program's website. If the patient is unable to do so, a pharmacy, doctor, or clinic near you can provide applications as well. They can often be mailed, or e-mailed, to the patient as well.

The patient must complete the Consent, Declaration and Authorization portion of the Novo Nordisk Patient Assistance Program form. Copies of the two most recent paystubs from all working members of the household must be provided along with the applicant's most recent income tax return, W2 or 1099 statements and any unemployment benefit statements. Therefore the pharmaceutical company needs to approve and verify all the information. Then the completed application, with proof, is mailed to Novo per the details above.

In addition to the online applications, NoveCare (which oversees the Patient Assistance Program) can be reached 844-668-6463. Whether free insulin, Obesity medications or something else, Novo Nordisk tries to provide financial assistance, discounts, and affordable medications.
