The North Hudson Community Action Corporation provides assistance to a diverse group of individuals or families that may be struggling. Programs are available for veterans, seniors, children, the uninsured, and other low income families. Services from the non-profit cover the Hudson County New Jersey municipalities of Guttenberg, East Newark, Harrison, Kearney, North Bergen, West New York, Secaucus, Union City, and Weehawken.

Short term financial help and crisis aid

Emergency assistance and social services are for qualified clients. They can receive financial assistance with a variety of situations. It can address the threat of evictions, homelessness, or lack of food. The emergency assistance includes vouchers for motel or hotel shelter, free food certificates to avert hunger and or temporary housing for those displaced by fires or a disaster. The programs are run from 7007 Polk Street, Guttenberg, NJ 07093.

Medical care from the North Hudson Community Action Corporation is for the low income and uninsured. The Health Center is staffed by dentists, nurse practitioners, physicians, certified nurse midwives, nurses, certified medical assistants, and dental assistants. They work together to offer patients evidence-based primary care services. Receive check ups, and the center will also encourage patients receive regular and continuous care.

Every qualified patient chooses her or his own primary doctors and dentist or other care provider. They will also be able to work closely with an interdisciplinary care team to ensure fully comprehensive medical care, regardless of the patients ability to pay their bills.

Adult medical care covers the ages of 19 up through the senior citizen/geriatric age period. The clinic will offer chronic, acute, and preventative health care for those that qualify. Low income patients are always encouraged to have a single primary care provider for their medical needs, and the NHCAC clinic allows this.

Call the center for information on Cancer Screenings, Annual Physical Exams, or Immunizations, Cholesterol/Blood sugar screenings. There are also medications for Chronic Disease,  management of the condition, treatment for Common medical conditions, and free referrals to specialty care.

 

 

 

Save money on prescription medications. In some cases, the drugs may be sold for up to 90% off their regular price. Even if you are uninsured, you will pay substantially less towards your prescription medications and if you are uninsured, a lower co-pay is offered.

The main resource offered by North Hudson Community Action Corporation is the 340B Drug program. What it does is require the drug manufacturers to provide patients with medications at those significantly lower prices. Many pharmacies in New Jersey participate, so you will need to select one in order to get help from the 340B program.

Dental Assistance is extensive and is offered by the NHCAC Health Center. The location will provide  quality, affordable or free dental services for the entire family in the Hudson County New Jersey area. Examples of services are Fluoride Application, Oral Hygiene education, examinations, Extractions, X-rays, Routine Checkups, Limited Root Canal, and of course Cleanings. Or there are referrals to free dental clinics in New Jersey.

Assistance for veterans is extensive. It ranges from financial aid to employment and self-sufficiency.

  • Emergency rental assistance can help with back payments too. There are numerous limitations, and they include maximum of 5 months of rent help in a 12- month period. Most of the aid is for those facing a one time hardship.
  • Utility bill payment assistance is available for any expenses in arrears or that may be currently due.
  • Help for winter heating costs, including gas and electricity.
  • Veterans may also get financial aid for paying rent or utility deposits. Any approved deposits by NHCAC do not count towards maximum financial assistance guidelines.

Education, job training from North Hudson Community Action Corporation

NHCAC Early Childhood Education Center is where Head Start and Early Head Start are run from. Some of what is provided includes free nutritious meals and snacks, creative and interactive activities, medical care, and other programs that provide nurturing care for children ages 3 - 4 years.
