Free clothes, furniture, and back to school supplies in Wilmington and New Castle County.

Low income families in New Castle County can turn to a local, charity run clothing closet or furniture bank for free stuff. There also tends to be goods for residents impacted by a disaster, such as a house fire or flood. There may be diapers, winter or general use clothing, bedroom or living room set furniture, school supplies, appliances, small air condoning units and other baby supplies, among other items. The exact types of free stuff depends on donations from the community in Wilmington area and county. There may even be free air conditioners for seniors.

Many of the free clothing or furniture centers operate via referrals and/or they have income guidelines in place. However if a family does not qualify then they can also shop for items at a low cost thrift store, as there are many of these in Wilmington Delaware as well. Between the clothing closets and thrift stores there may be furniture, school notebooks, computers for students, dresses for work or suits for a job, and more. Low income families, the disabled and seniors can also get free furniture for a home or apartment.

Charities may also help via issuing vouchers for clothes and provide clients access to shower facilities or personal hygiene items. Low income families moving into a new home or apartment can try to obtain furniture and household goods, so much support is available. Staff will also refer clients to additional supportive services in the region.
