Financial assistance in Nash County

Receive access to social services from the Salvation Army. The organization provides cash grants and emergency financial assistance to low income and the working poor. The resources offered by the Nash County Salvation Army include.

Christ Centered Assistance Network may be able to help very poor or the homeless in the area. This organization may be able to help people of all faiths. The network of churches may be able to provide assistance for utilities, assistance and access to free new or gently used clothing, rent help, funds to pay utilities and energy bills, household goods, Christian guidance, and information and guidance to assist people who are applying for Medlink services. Project Hope offers low to moderate income people free food, groceries, housing assistance, clothing, and referral services as well as emergency funds to pay expenses as they become available. Funding is very limited. Dial (252) 985-1041.

EBC-ATOM, Inc. is another charity organization. They offer assistance for the low income and the needy with low to moderate-income housing. In addition to housing and rent issues, they also provide funds for assistance with paying utility bills, the agency can also provide food and groceries for the hungry in Nash County areas. Rocky Mount based Helping Hands Mission offers programs for the homeless and working poor. The charity provides emergency financial assistance and can give cash grants for prescription medicine and utility bills. In addition they provide free food and clothing, and additional assistance for people stranded in the city of Rocky Mount. Phone (252) 977-0031.

Nash Community Action, also known as NEED, oversees a few different programs in the region. The local Economic Development agency is part of the nationwide network, and some of the solutions available are below.

  • Rental assistance is available in the form of section 8 vouchers. The staff can also help families explore grant programs, including for security deposits, that are offered by other Nash County non-profits.
  • Food programs, such as from Head Start or USDA resources.

Funds are used to pay back rent, provide for a portion of a security deposit, and offer counseling. Thrift stores and clothing closets may offer free items to people facing a disaster (such as a flood or hurricane) as well as the homeless that are being resettled in Nash County.
