Monroe County Pennsylvania Grants Office assistance programs.

Most of the support from the Monroe County Grants Office is in the form of referrals. The government supported agency partners with agencies all over the county to provide support to struggling families. While there are no guarantees to receiving help from the center, residents can learn about everything from services available from the state to resources focused on senior citizens.

Help for the elderly

One key partner of the grants office is the Area Agency on Aging. This is a center that coordinates existing services and develops essential programs with the goal of improving the quality of life of Monroe County's older citizens as well as the disabled.

Using the guidance of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, staff of professionals as well as numerous volunteers in the field of aging are dedicated to furthering the care of seniors. They partner on strengthening family life; protecting adults who are in danger of abuse, neglect or exploitation, and also  assisting individuals as they work to achieve or retain their independence.

Senior citizens in Monroe County often struggle with mobility. Maybe during the winter, or maybe they do not have access to a car or public transit. Meals can be delivered to them. The Grants Office can help with that, and provide details on homebound Meals on Wheels assistance programs.

Applicants can enroll into Health Care, Access Transportation, Get Assistance with Daily Living, Child Care, Personal Financial Planning, and free legal aid.

Mortgage help from Monroe County Grants Office

The Monroe County Grants Office operates a Foreclosure Counseling Program for homeowners who are at risk of losing their homes to sheriff’s sale. This was established to be a foreclosure diversion program in the civil division of the Court of Common Pleas. The main purpose of the resource is to ensure that residents of the county are well prepared for their Mortgage Foreclosure Settlement Conferences.

To that end, housing counselors from the organization help clients review their loan documents and explore available options for resolving the issue. Some of these include requesting a modification to their loan. Other components assist with bringing the mortgage current, paying off the mortgage, proposing a repayment plan wit the bank, and so on.

Finally, the housing counselor from the organization develops a proposal addressing the mortgage delinquency that is presented to the lender’s attorney prior to the conciliation. The settlement conference is held in civil court, and is attended by the lender, the banks attorney, a pro bono attorney representing the homeowner (Monroe County only), the housing counselor, and of course the borrower.
