Christian Help, Inc-  This non-profit provides limited financial assistance to those in need. The amount of help can be as low as $50, but funds may be provided. The agency also provides free clothing and other household goods including baby items, food, and more from the pantry or Free Store. There will be free appliances, fans (during the summer) and other stuff given away too.

As far as emergency financial assistance, there may be money for paying rent, utilities, housing expenses and prescription medications. They also run a furniture exchange program and more. West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is located at 112 S High St, Morgantown, WV 26501 processes applications to government benefits. Typical requests satisfied by DHHR  include help with rent payments, funds for paying utility and heating bills and restoring electricity, or emergency lodging. WV Works, ESG grant money, LIEAP and other public aid may help.

Consumer Credit Counseling - Monongalia County - This non-profit agency assists individuals and families who are in debt or facing a foreclosure. This local clients who are behind on their bills, overextended or who would like assistance with money management or debt reduction may be able to get access to counseling and advice.

Appointments are scheduled with certified credit and housing counselors in a confidential setting. It is important to note that debt repayment programs are available for those whose income will not support current monthly payments on their bills. Catholic Community Services, phone number (304) 292-6597, runs a food pantry in the area. The faith based charity also provides other basic needs, ranging from free furniture to clothes and maybe a little money to pay bills in a crisis.

  • This charity type organization provides information on small scale grants to single mothers, hispanices, seniors and immigrants in Monongalia County. The money can be used to meet crucial and/or emergency needs of low income individuals and families in the community.

The charity provides emergency free food to individuals and families. The center also usually carries staple items as well as bread, baby food and diapers. Salvation Army programs are extensive in West Virginia. There is a center that supports low income, single mothers or people with addictions and working poor residents of Monongalia County.
