How to get help with bills
The Douglass Community Services agency, located in Hannibal, offers several programs that provide people with assistance with their bills.
Get Assistance with Paying Rent, Utilities, Home Mortgage, or for Home Repairs
Grants and funds are offered through the Missouri Housing Development Commission. Various types of grants and government funds are available at different times during the year for families who are facing eviction, those who are facing a foreclosure, and you can even get help with paying for home repairs. There are some conditions, and they include:
-Applicant needs to live in Marion or Ralls County.
-The family needs to meet income guidelines and also complete a detailed application.
-Grants and assistance is limited to one time per client over the course of a year.
-Referrals are provided as well to other local agencies, non-profits, and charities. For example, learn about Missouri heating and utility programs.
Emergency Food Pantry
Food is available for any family who is in need of food. Aid is offered up to once in a three-month period, unless there are extenuating circumstances that require someone to need more food and related aid.
Children's Free Summer Lunch Program
Children will be served a free lunch at the Hannibal Housing Authority Community Room or the Willow Street Christian Church.
Douglass Clothing Store
Provides heavily discounted clothes and other supplies. Most items are priced at 25 cents. In addition to discounted clothing, other household items are available, such as dishes, linens, and small appliances. These may be available sporadically and for low prices.

Emergency assistance, food, and medical care in Marion
North East Community Action Corporation - Marion County Service Center is a leading non profit in the region. A number of services are administered, including seasonal heating and cooling bill payment assistance. They also offer other resources such as applications for section 8 housing, job search/placement services, and homeless prevention. Also apply for LIHEAP and or weatherization at this Marion County non-profit. Faith Miracle Ministry is based in Hannibal and provides free food and groceries to the needy in Palmyra and nearby areas. Aid is offered for those who are struggling. Special holiday meals may be offered too. Telephone number is (573) 248-6165.
Hannibal Clinic Health Services provides a variety of low cost or maybe even health care services and programs to Marion County residents. In addition, the center can also coordinate HPV vaccinations for females ages 9-26 years. Call (573) 231-3155 for intake.
