Marion County South Carolina assistance programs.

Salvation Army of Marion County South Carolina is maybe the leading charily organization to call for assistance and advice. A number of services are provided to the working poor, unemployed, elderly, and disabled.

Provides to qualified people a free food pantry, thrift store, clothing up to once every 6 months, rent assistance and money to prevent an eviction, help for paying utilities if faced with a disconnection, and other forms of financial aid and support. Lighthouse Ministries (call (843) 629-0830) is another place to turn to for financial assistance for paying bills. This agency runs Food Pantries, offers Prescription Expense Assistance, Utility and Energy Bill Service Payment Assistance, and other forms of support. More Lighthouse programs.

The local United Way is a good resource for information. While they do not offer any direct assistance or funds, they can refer individuals to local non-profits, charities, or government programs. The agency funds many of the local Marion County South Carolina charities, churches, and non-profit programs. Call 843-662-2407.

The local community clinic is known as HopeHealth, Inc. The center is a federally government funded community health center and clinic that is involved in providing comprehensive primary health care services to any person or patient in need residing in the Florence area. (843) 667-9414

Pee Dee Community Action Partnership is the agency that supports Marion South Carolina. Some of the resources they provide and administer include:

  • Medically Indigent Assistance Program - If you do not have health insurance, or a poor policy, then this program can provide financial help for medical and hospital bills. The county and local hospitals provide funding for the program.

 

 

 

 

  • Head Start - The local version of this government funded program is run by Pee Dee. The program can help deal with and fight poverty in children by providing lower income families and individuals with access to a comprehensive assistance program that can help them meet their emotional, physical, nutritional and psychological needs. Almost 800 families get help from SC Head Start in the region every year.
  • General financial assistance for bills, rent, and other expenses - The community action agency runs what is known as the Community Services Block Grant. Among other things, it is a Homeless Prevention Program, a program that assists in paying for heating and cooling bills during appropriate seasons. a General Emergency Assistance program, LIHEAP, and a Housing and Support program. They can also refer individuals to electric assistance in South Carolina.
  • Referrals - While there may be financial help available from Pee Dee, the case managers also offer advice from their Human Services department. This includes everything from emergency rent help to loans for bills or security deposits. Residents in Marion can also be referred to public aid such as SNAP food stamps, medical assistance from the Affordable Care Act, shelter, and more.
