Manatee County Salvation Army emergency assistance.

Manatee County Salvation Army will try to provide meals, housing, free food from pantries or rent help and other support to the needy. All of the social services, including applications for financial help or access to the Family Store, are provided in multiple languages, including Spanish. The free food, emergency assistance, and other aid is also combined with Ministries and Youth Development programs.

When it comes to housing needs, there are Family Shelters and units for men as well. There is shelter for women, single parents, and children as well. It combines short term lodging with intensive case management. Also, the guests of the units can be provided a meal at the same time as well as hygiene items.

There are also Manatee County transitional housing programs available as well. Many of the people that “graduate” from the shelters can move into these accommodations. The Salvation Army can refer clients to these types of services in Bradenton Florida as well as other local communities.

Free food, including community meals, are served 365 days per year. This will be a dinner that takes place. The Manatee County Salvation Army often serves over 100 people per day. The service is mostly run by volunteers from the community. There is not only a daily meal that will tend to be hot and healthy, but this also takes place at Easter, Thanksgiving, as well as Christmas. Find more details on feeding sites from the Salvation Army.

There are also other businesses and non-profits in the region that help the soup kitchen by donating free money to run the programs. They include the Rotary Club, Mosiac, the Village of Arts, and others. These groups will collect groceries from the community for use at the meals. Many also provide volunteers to help serve the needy. Another partner is the Agency on Aging, and they may deliver hot meals to the homebound in Bradenton.

Financial help from the Manatee County Salvation Army is very limited. There are various uses of the grants as well as loans from the non-profit. There may be emergency funds for paying rent, energy bills, and medications as well. Any money issued will be part of a crisis situation only.

When it comes to offering money, the funds are limited and will only cover a portion of any bill that is due. The applicant will also need to come up with money for their housing or medical needs. This also applies for utilities too. However even though the Salvation Army has limited resources available, they can offer referrals to other local charities that may have free money to pay bills.

Angel Tree Christmas Program is also arranged. This is similar to adopt a family, in which businesses and people from Manatee County buy gifts for children. Low income parents can register, provided they meet guidelines and do it early enough. There may be games, educational supplies, clothing, and similar items provided.

While the Angel Tree from the Salvation Army provides help at Christmas, often working poor families need other seasonal support. This is when a service such as the back to school supply program will come into play. There may be notebooks, uniforms, and more for kids. Other seasonal items are free Easter baskets, Christmas parties, and much more.

There are also social services run. These include Youth Development for children, including from immigrant families. There are also worship programs from the Manatee County Salvation Army, which often take place on Sunday. There will also be a community meal given too. Free school supplies for students from low income families will be passed out during the summer. Last, but not least, are the disaster relief programs for the entire community regardless of income, race, or religion.
