Madera and Tuolumne regional Salvation Army assistance programs.

When faced with a crisis, the Salvation Army in Madera County California may be able to help. The centers administer numerous social services and assistance programs for the low income in the region, including Tuolumne, Mariposa, and Mono County.

While services, funding, and resources vary by office and time of the year, some of what may be offered includes free food, emergency rental assistance, shelter, and funds for paying utility bills. Referrals, case management, and self-sufficiency services are also made available by your local Salvation Army center in California.

The regional Christmas Assistance Program includes components such as Angel Tree, Adopt a Family, and holiday meals. Together these resources provide free new toys, food and clothing to children from low income and less fortunate families who otherwise would go without during the holiday period. Hundreds of families and immigrants from the Madera County California area normally are supported every year.

What will happen is Angel Trees are set up in many public places, such as shopping malls or post offices. They will have the name, clothing size, age, and gender of the child. More details on what they need will be on the tag as well. Then people can pick up the tag and buy the requested item for the child. The Salvation Army administer the program and will ensure the gifts get to the child in question. During Thanksgiving and Christmas, thousands of senior citizens and children sign up for the Angel Tree Christmas assistance program.

Emergency financial aid, social services, and other support is available. The demand is high due to these trying times and our current weak economic environment. Hundreds of households, including many unemployed, from Madera and Tuolumne County call upon the Salvation Army and its programs for emergency assistance. They request help for paying their utility bills, rent, or maybe they need prescriptions for a serious medical condition.

When the agency has funding, and if the applicant meets conditions, money will be paid out directly to your landlord or utility/water company. Sometimes vouchers may be issued for medications, groceries, or other basic needs. This may be the program that is in highest demand, and the resources are very limited. The Salvation Army case manger will need to review your income, expenses, and overall financial condition. While there is no cost to apply, many people will not qualify or are turned away. They may refer you to one of their partner organizations, including churches, in the Madera or Mariposa region. They do this in order to try to ensure all clients’ receive some type of support.
