Assistance programs Lycoming County

Find churches, charities, and government organizations in Lycoming County, all of which offer financial help as well as free stuff. Community action grants to help with bills

A number of low-income assistance programs are available. The Lycoming-Clinton Counties for Community Action provides hardship grants, job training, help with utility bills or housing and other costs.

  • Mortgage relief - If you are facing a default or foreclosure and need so called delinquency counseling, loss mitigation, or if you need help with dealing with a predatory lender or mortgage, the agency can help.   • Home improvements and repairs - As part of the community action Loan Program, housing staff and counselors will assist homeowners in prioritizing their home repair spending.   • Housing and rent payment help - Apply for ESG grants to pay back rent in Lycoming County, money for moving or security deposits and other support. Low-income families, veterans and single moms can get immediate financial help.
     
  • Credit, debt, and budgeting programs - The Lycoming-Clinton Counties for Community Action runs the STEP Outreach program. Clients of the agency can assist customers with developing and maintaining a workable household budget, help them reduce and eliminate credit card and other debts and assist them in enrolling in an affordable utility bill payment program. They will also help with car payments, DMP and more.
     
  • Transportation services -For job seekers, there are car repairs, free vehicle giveaways, gas cards and more. The goal is to encourage access to transportation for work, and locate free cars for single moms.

Social services and emergency financial assistance

American Rescue Workers is a Williamsport based agency that offers various free services, resources, social services, and financial aid to families in need of help. Some of the resources they can offer include:

  • Rental assistance - Most years hundreds of families are provided emergency rental assistance to ensure they did not become homeless. The financial aid may be in the form of loans or other sources. This is combined with the rent programs.
     
  • Utility and heating bill help - The non-profit will also help people receive cash for paying an utility bill. The reason they offer this is that if someone has their service disconnected, they are as good as homeless.
     
  • Food assistance and holiday meals - Thousands of families were offered with free food, groceries, and other nutritional supplements.

  • General services, free stuff and help - Last, but not least, low-income Lycoming County families were given articles of beds, clothing, bedding & blankets, dressers, or couches. There are also free chairs, cribs, tables, and electrical appliances. In addition to those household goods, the agency also offered bus tokens, vouchers for free medical prescriptions, infant care items, diapers, walkers, wheelchairs, canes and many assorted toiletries. Lycoming County Salvation Army - Several resources are available, including emergency financial assistance, case management, free food, and help for seniors. Christmas assistance includes Angel Tree and free Toys for Tots as well as free meals also help the low-income, disabled and homeless.

  • Family and Social Services can help qualified low income families pay their rent, utility/heating bills and may even provide vouchers for needs such as medications or gasoline. When it comes to housing needs, low income families can apply for one time rent help and there are also security deposit programs. The state provides assistance from ESA and a number of charities also offer support.

  • Shelters can be used by the homeless, including single moms or children.
  • Grants are used for paying rent, mortgages, utilities, and other expenses on Lycoming County.

Eastern Pennsylvania Continuum of Care in Lycoming County is at 815 West 4th Street, Williamsport, PA 17701. Multiple parishes, charities and non-profit help people regardless of their age, race, or ethnicity. There is assistance for the unemployed, elderly immigrants, refugees, as well as pregnant women or single mothers. Programs range from grant money for housing or security deposits to back rent, homeless shelters and more.

Lycoming County Assistance Office is the main location for government benefits. Low income, poverty fighting resources are offered. Williamsport emergency food, groceries, and hot meals - No matter why someone is struggling, if they meet the low income levels, there may be free boxes of food from pantries. There are charities that also offer clothing, household goods, winter attire, and holiday meals too.
