Lumberton Christian Care Center assistance programs.

Lumberton Christian Care Center works to feed and house the poor, homeless, struggling, and less fortunate in Robeson County. The faith based charity serves a free daily meal from a soup kitchen, operates an emergency homeless shelter, offer substance abuse referrals as well as to financial aid, and much more. Anyone from the community, including Native Americans, veterans, immigrants and others can use the center.

The two main assistance programs are the food pantry/meal service as well as short term, emergency housing. However they help in other ways as well, namely referrals to community resources. The Lumberton Christian Care Center also relies on the generosity of volunteers and donors in the county.

Free meals, food, and nutritional resources

The Soup Kitchen/Feeding site at Lumberton Christian Care Center serves clients and the hungry daily, in partnership with local churches such as First Baptist Church, Godwin Heights Baptist Church, as well as The Birthing Place Church. There is also a free Saturday meal.

There are nutritious scratch-made meals using the time of volunteers and donations of food and groceries from the Robeson County community. An individual from the community can get a meal that was made from fresh ingredients sourced from Second Harvest food banks, Feeding America, local donations from restaurants, and others. The charity also operates using private donations as well, and all of this allows diners to enjoy hot or even cold meals at no cost to them. Or find other free hot daily meals near you.

Lumberton Christian Care Center also wants people to get the skills so they can live and eat healthy on their own. So the non-profit has weekly cooking classes throughout the year. There are also tips on how to shop healthy on a budget. Students who register for the service receive recipes and fresh food at each class.  The program is offered in collaboration with the local Robeson County DSS as well as public health programs in the state.

The program was  designed to equip clients with the knowledge and resources designed to reduce the risk of preventable diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. It will help people improve their overall health as well. Support includes cooking workshops and goal setting for health of their families.

Lumberton Christian Care Center Housing Resources

The Christian Care Center homeless shelter provides 100% support (in addition to a roof over the person's head) while residents stay with them. The center is for the homeless in Robeson County, both short and long term issues. It will give the guest a safe haven to live in, as new unscreened members will need to be referred or use a local police officer. Then, to end the cycle and find a long term solution, there are a number of other transitional services for homeless families, children, as well as single women too. The additional, 100% support includes the following.

  • Children are enrolled in school/daycare while the parent works or trains.
  • Free classes are provided with partners in Robeson County for parenting, goal-setting, budgeting, debt reduction, life skills, saving money for a deposit, and more.
  • Young kids can enroll into afterschool tutoring if needed.

There are requirements put into place by Christian Care Center in Robeson County. Responsibilities include chores each day. The guest is also required to look for work, be employed full or part time, or volunteering to improve themselves.

To that end, residents meet weekly with a case worker that is based at the shelter. This professional will help them transition to a stable, self-supporting lifestyle on their own. As any shelter service will always be for short term needs. The ultimate goal is to end homelessness, one family at a time.
