Nassau and Suffolk County transitional housing and shelter.

Low income housing programs operate across Nassau and Suffolk County on Long Island. Families that were recently evicted or that are homeless can use the emergency shelters or look into the transitional housing programs. The resources are run by non-profits, charities, or in some cases, government agencies.

Not only will a client be able to find a place to stay, they can also access case management and related services to help them find a new home or apartment to live in. This is called permanent housing assistance. Clients will also be provided information on financial assistance programs in Long Island that can help them pay for a security deposit or first months rent.

While each program has limited resources and some of the transitional housing programs focus on veterans, single parents, or families, the bottom line is that are many options to choose from. Other resources are focused on immigrants and new comers to the Long Island New York area. Even if a non-profit in Nassau or nearby Suffolk County can't meet your needs, they will more than likely have referrals for you.
