Las Vegas Clark County Urban League Community Action Agency programs.

Qualified low income families from Clark County Nevada may be able to get assistance for their basic needs and also get on track to long term self-sufficiency. The Community Action Agency in the region is known as Las Vegas Clark County Urban League and they will help people overcome their challenges and exit poverty.

Short term crisis assistance may be offered, referrals to government benefits, family stability, and more. Resources range from emergency and transitional housing, clothing, utility bill help, funds for rent, weatherization, applications to WIC, and much more. Many of these are part of the public assistance programs in Nevada.

The Family Development Program offers referrals and management services for low-income families in a crisis. Social workers will perform client assessments to identify barriers to economic self-sufficiency and personal wellbeing.

The community action FDD program helps families and the poor become self supporting over the mid term while assisting them with basic needs in the short run. The non-profit integrates social service delivery with other empowerment enhancing services. Education, job training, empowerment and self advocacy are offered as part of Family Development Program. Staff will work with Clark County families in the removal of barriers. Quality case management services are available to low income and or homeless individuals, ex-offenders, poor families and seniors.

Some of the short term aid available to clients of FDD is as follows. This will always depend on funding levels that the Las Vegas Clark County Urban League Community Action Agency has. Clients may receive clothing, Transition and short term housing, food, funds for energy bills, Basic Wellness Referral Assistance and Identification Assistance.

Uninsured residents in Nevada can get advice and referrals from the Health Care Coalition. The agency, working with the state, provides those from the community without health insurance the resources for their medical bills and health care needs.

Child Care subsidies are offered. The Urban League's tires to provide affordable, high quality, accessible, reliable, caring, and stimulating child and day care for the children of Southern Nevada and Las Vegas. This is part of free federal government voucher service. The goal is to help job seekers, single moms or dads, and other in the Las Vegas area pay for child care.

 

 

 

The program provides working parents or those in job training with financial assistance and grants to those who struggle with paying the high cost of child care. Staff will also partner with parents to make the choices that will lead to self-sufficiency. The program offered through the state of Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services, or DWSS, and it will connect families and parents to a variety of quality yet affordable child care programs and providers.

REXO Champs can assist ex-felons and people released from jail with transitioning from prison back to the greater southern Nevada community. The goal of the community action agency is to provide services through mentoring, family re-unification, educational services, and referrals.

The 21st Century Learning Center and also the Youth Interactive Learning Center offer homework assistance, education and writing skills, reading and math tutorials and academic enrichment activities to students and the youth. The Read & Rise Program parents strategies to support their child's early literacy goals and reading skills.

The Las Vegas Weatherization Assistance Program is administered by the Clark County Urban League Community Action Agency. It is offered at no cost and can help people lower their utility bills and save money. Qualified homeowners can receive air sealing to reduce infiltration, Pipe and/or Duct Insulation, Attic Insulation, Energy Efficient Light Bulbs, Low Flow Shower Heads, and other updates.

 

 

 

 

Seniors from Clark County can use the Martin Luther King Senior Center. It provides low cost nutritious lunches, home repair and modifications, health care screenings, transportation, life-skills education, computer training, socialization and recreation activities.

Clark County Nevada residents often need affordable or free legal aid. The Urban League Community Action can provide support there are well. Whether it is for foreclosure assistance, debt or credit issues, housing discrimination or anything, gambling addictions, there are many free lawyers for legal aid around.

Debt, credit, and loan assistance (whether payday or car loans) is always in demand. The Las Vegas Clark County Urban League provides referrals and support there. There are many options available to low to moderate income families. The agency can go over them. Find everything to consolidation to credit repair, settlement or free debt management plans.

The federal funded Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is for infants and pregnant mothers in Clark County. The non-profit will help arrange for proper nutrition, balanced diet, and regular exercise. The WIC program provides free supplemental nutritious foods, formula, nutrition education, and counseling. Other support is available as part of referral services to the nutritionally at-risk population.
