Larimer County assistance programs.

In an emergency, find churches, charities, or government assistance grants that offer emergency financial help or free stuff. Find help with paying for a mortgage, rent or security deposits in the Fort Collins area. There is also free food from pantries, cash grants to pay electric or utility bills, cash loans for paying bills or medical or dental care in Larimer County along with medications.

Learn where to apply for help with those bills as well as how to get transportation for work, gasoline vouchers, job training, free school supplies or Christmas help, and other support. The resources in Larimer County are extensive. Whether financial aid, senior care, or even security deposit help, assistance is out there.

Mortgage and rent assistance

The Neighbor to Neighbor program provides rent, foreclosure counseling, and overall housing assistance to families in Larimer County. Neighbor to Neighbor is a nonprofit organization that was created in 1970 to assist families and individuals with affordable housing as well as rent opportunities in Larimer County Colorado.

The nonprofit organization offers three different assistance programs in Larimer County. They include the tenant program which provides rent assistance and security deposit help to struggling families, and this may be provided in the form of grants or other sources of funds. They also offer rent counseling to help people find and also maintain stable and financially appropriate apartments and other housing.

The Neighbor to Neighbor program helps almost 500 families per year to find stable rent and housing, so it is effective. They are one resource for preventing homelessness in the region.

In addition, you can also receive Foreclosure Prevention Counseling. Since 2007, the Neighbor to Neighbor program has advised and provided mortgage counseling to thousands of homeowners. They were successful in preventing foreclosures on 90 percent of those homes. Call 970-484-7498.

Debt and credit counseling

The Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Northern Colorado and Southeast Wyoming (CCCS), is an aid organization funded by the United Way that serves Larimer County. Services provided include financial counseling (over the telephone or in person), assistance to pay off credit cards and debts through our debt management program, educational workshops provided for free through the MoneySense Financial Health Center, rent, mortgage, and housing counseling, and also required bankruptcy advice. Larimer County rent assistance

The Neighbor to Neighbor organization, (which merged with the Homelessness Prevention Initiative of Larimer County) provides emergency rental and other financial assistance to members of the local  community who face being evicted or face the loss of their housing through unforeseen emergencies. There may be one time cash aid provided for a security deposit, rent, or even energy bills. Homeowners who are struggling can get foreclosure counseling.

The goal is to help people impacted by a crisis such as a job loss or reduction in working hours. Utility and heating bill help

The House of Neighborly Service, which is a Loveland nonprofit agency, offers help with a wide variety of  emergency services to individuals and families in need of help. One of the resources they offer is assistance with utility bills. They usually provided aid to several hundred people every year. Through the help of the House of Neighborly Service, those in need of assistance can be provided with up to $100 to pay their utility or heating bills. Financial assistance programs

Salvation Army Fort Collins is a basic needs organization. Some of the services offered include free food and clothing (no gasoline money). Food baskets, vouchers as well as free holiday gift and food program is also administered. The agency will also have limited funds for paying rent, utility and heating bills. Catholic Charities Larimer County assists with utility shut offs and disconnections from Xcel, City of Fort Collins, propane, and REA. The support is for residents of Berthoud, Loveland, Fort Collins and north to the Wyoming Colorado border. 970-494-4388. Learn more on utility disconnection laws.

House of Neighborly Service provides basic necessities and the so called social services of life to residents of Loveland and Berthoud Colorado. The non-profit agency offers assistance with food, money for paying utilities, gas vouchers, and prescription medication assistance. Call 970-667-4939

Crossroads Ministry of Estes Park - This non-profit organization offers emergency and short term financial assistance in a variety of forms to families and individuals of the Estes Valley who are temporarily in need of help. Assistance offered, such as free food, gasoline, partial rent or utility bill help, prescription medication assistance, emergency short term housing and shelter, transportation in emergency, or other emergency needs may be considered. Larimer County Department of Human Services runs various social services and public assistance programs. They include the AKA Supplemental Nutrition/Food Assistance Program which can offer supplemental food assistance and groceries for low income households. In addition, work experience, job training and job placement services are provided in partnership with Larimer County Workforce Center. There is also emergency housing or motels for the homeless, and locate motel vouchers online.

They run the federal government LEAP (Low Income Energy Assistance Program), that can help pay winter heating costs and bills, including kerosene, natural gas, propane, electricity, fuel oil, wood, coal, etc. for qualifying individuals and families. Receive cash from Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF). Public aid is available for families of at least one parent and one child.

LIHEAP and Weatherization is available in Colorado, including Fort Collins. It is a government grant program that can help pay bills, provide free energy conservation measures as well as other support. Most of the support is for families in poverty, seniors, or the disabled. Fort Collins Housing Authority is a primary location to contact for information on the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. This federal government subsidized program provides rental assistance to landlords on behalf of poor and low income families. VOA of Colorado - The state and national charity assists the less fortunate and homeless. There is a special focus on the elderly, veterans, or disabled. Assistance ranges from housing to food and programs such as Head Start, and case managers also have information on government grant programs in Larimer County, including for rental expenses. Larimer County Office on Aging is the Area Agency on Aging for Larimer County and serves adults age 60 and over. Project Self-Sufficiency is focused on single parents, and that is all. The agency is limited in resources, but it can provide clients with everything from help finding a job to funds to pay for employment needs, such as clothing, child care or classes. There may be help in locating an affordable home or apartment, as well as short term transportation to an interview.

Murphy Center – The non-profit provides emergency assistance around rent ,and eviction prevention. Clients can get help paying for rent and referrals to other resources. Homeless prevention and rental help - Several non-profits and programs focus on addressing housing issues. Emergency funds can be provided to pay rent, referrals may be offered to government programs, and free advice may be provided. Food assistance in Larimer County

Low income families can contact the Food Bank for Larimer County at 970-493-4477, which is located in Fort Collins Colorado. Three programs offered include Food Share, Food Link and Kids Cafe.

St John's Lutheran Church of Fort Collins Colorado is a church that will provide food to families and individuals who are requesting aid at no cost. Free food is provided on a short term basis to those in need of help. Call 970-482-5316

SERVE 6.8 (formerly) Vineyard Church may be able to supply emergency food bags, and various household and hygiene items as they are donated to low income in Larimer County Colorado. The agency is made up of local churches that help residents facing financial hardship and crisis by providing food, clothing and other services. Appointments are needed. The address is 1600 E. During the summer months, students often need food or meals to replace the free school meals they were getting. Charities and churches throughout the county provide this support to kids, teenagers and others. Find details on free summer meals for students.

Community clinics

Health care on a sliding fee is provided by Salud Family Health Centers. Some of the routine medical care offered includes services such as family practice, well child adolescent and adult care, management of acute and chronic illness, prenatal care and obstetric. Phone 970- 494-4040

Free or low cost legal help and advice

Colorado Legal Services offers all sorts of free legal aid, including help applying for and understanding public benefits and government programs, including unemployment compensation, Medicaid, Food Stamps, TANF, childcare assistance, and Social Security disability benefits. They can offer help with housing cases, such as eviction prevention, warranty of habitability, public housing and Section 8 issues, and utility and heating shutoffs and disconnections.
