Assistance programs in Kenosha County.

The charities, churches, and government assistance programs below help low income families. Some of the programs they offer focus on providing emergency services such as prescription drugs and medication assistance, free diapers and clothes, career counseling and job-search assistance. There is also neighborhood development, adult education and youth programs.

Another organization to contact is the Kenosha Human Development Services. This non-profit agency, which can be reached at 262-657-7188, has provided quality community social services for 34 years to low income and other needy individuals. Services offered by the group includes 24 hour crisis intervention, emergency shelters, housing aid, and transitional housing for homeless people. Also call the Shalom Center at 262-658-1713. Get access to free food, emergency shelter, or housing. There is also various programs that support to those less fortunate including Emergency Family Shelter, Food Pantry, Nightly Shelter, After School tutoring, and also a Soup Kitchen.

Women’s & Children’s Horizons (262-656-3500) is a non-profit organization that provides emergency shelter, help with medical care and bills, legal advocacy support groups, and transitional living services. The non-profit also offer support for domestic violence survivors, sexual abuse programming, food, clothing, household goods pantries, and 24-hour crisis line to qualified individuals who need assistance.

Salvation Army Of Kenosha County runs a free food pantry and offers other social services, including possible financial help, at their location. There may be funds to help pay for housing related costs (utilities, rent or a mortgage). There may also be groceries or hygiene items from the free food pantry. RKCAA - In addition to the resources below, the agency will offer funds for both utility and heating bills in Kenosha. This is available from the federal government WHEAP program. A focus is on keeping people warm during the winter, in particular senior citizens and families with children. So various services are run by the organization.

Free dental and medical care

Kenosha Community Health Center, which is often called KCHC for short, is a community based and oriented primary health care and dental facility. Kenosha County mortgage help, utility assistance, job programs and rental assistance

If you need help paying your rent, mortgage assistance, or are facing a foreclosure, call the Racine/Kenosha Community Action Agency at (262) 637-8377. The agency is a federal government HUD Certified counseling agency. A key focus is on preventing homeless in the region.

They are one of the key providers of rent, housing, and mortgage assistance to people who are struggling. In addition, they even help currently homeless persons or those at risk of becoming homeless. They provide households with funds for paying rent, escrow and even mortgage assistance. In some cases, RKCAA can arrange grants for security deposits on a new, low income apartment.

The non-profit also battles poverty and offers struggling families many other assistance programs. Those range from help in applying for government assistance to career counseling, information on low income housing, details on emergency loans for bills, and more.

The community Action in Kenosha provides many services to the less fortunate. They can also counsel people who are dealing with a foreclosure. Sharing Center, Inc. – Families in which their income is not sufficient to meet their basic needs may be able to obtain an ongoing supply of free food or groceries. There may also be clothes or Thanksgiving or Christmas dinners served as well as baby formula. The center will have food usually once per month.
