Free Christmas and holiday programs in Indianapolis area.

There are charities and churches in the greater Indianapolis area that provide free assistance during the holidays to low income families, seniors, and children. The non-profits have items ranging from free Christmas toys or gifts to meals and baskets of holiday food. There is also Thanksgiving as well as Christmas assistance for the homebound, including senior citizens and the disabled in the Marion County and Indianapolis area.

National and regional programs, including Toys for Tots from USMC, Thanksgiving turkey meals as well as the Salvation Army Angel Tree and Adopt a Family assist thousands of Indianapolis area families each year. The sites that provide help at Christmas or Thanksgiving are located in many nearby towns and counties. They rely on donations from the community in order to give free gifts to children or to serve meals. The programs are available in a wide region, including the Indianapolis MSA which is counties of Marion, Clinton, Montgomery, Boone, Hamilton, Putnam, Owen, Hendricks, Morgan, Johnson,Monroe, Brown or Shelby

The exact items offered by each center will vary, and the applications are normally processed on a first come and served basis. Families, in particular those with children, should apply for assistance in the early fall months in order to have a chance to receive a toy or gift. Volunteers from the community may also help seniors apply, and bring them a free meal during Thanksgiving or Christmastime.

Christmas programs from Salvation Army
There are several centers in the region. The charity operates programs such as Angel Tree or Adopt a Family, and these are focused on children from low income families. Key partners of the holiday programs are both the United Way as well as Toys for Tots as well. They may receive free clothes, toys, games, matchbox cars, video or board games, bicycles or other items. Meals are provided (including at Thanksgiving or Easter), and some Salvation Army centers in Indianapolis may offer funds for bills or access to food pantries for seasonal items.

They may have free food, groceries, seasonal items such as Turkeys and items for people that do not qualify for the regional Cheer Fund.

Toys for Tots of Indianapolis MSA
This provide free Christmas gifts (clothing, toys, books, games, sneakers, and more) to children from low income households under the age of 13. Applications are processed both online and at local charities in Marion County as well as other areas of the service territory, as noted above. There are free gender specific toys for boys, girls, and children from age 0 to 16 or so.

Children and teens who are approved/registered can "shop" for free Christmas gifts. Get tablets, clothes, video games or consoles, Legos, Christmas tree decorations and more. There are also free holiday programs for immigrants, single mothers or those fleeing violence in Indianapolis, the elderly and others.

The center has free holiday clothes, gifts, presents, games and a food box to eligible low-income persons. There is both a Thanksgiving and Christmas program run. Turkey dinners, meals, stuffings, and more items are offered.

Free meals, including home delivery for seniors. This is an annual service. There may be free Thanksgiving turkey dinners, Christmas meals (or food baskets), groceries and more. Single moms in the region, the homeless, working poor and others can use the program.

The Christmas Miracle Fund is for families with young children in Jackson County. The less fortunate may have a gift or small toy/game to open under the tree on the morning of Christmas.
