Hood River, Sherman, Wasco county assistance programs.

Several different local non-profits and/or government programs can provide help with bills, health care, counseling, and referrals to various financial assistance programs.

Mid-Columbia Community Action Council, Inc. - This is the community action agency, and the main office is in The Dallas Oregon. This non-profit provides information on local charities and government programs. They can provide referral, energy and heating bill assistance, assistance with trash and garbage collection, help for paying water bills and sewage discount, rental assistance, referrals to local and national free legal aid services, housing, food assistance, shelter and respite and health care.

A number of other services are available from MCCAC. Short term housing, case management, and support is offered as part of Hamilton Transitional Housing. Emergency funds, or a loan, can be issued to pay for certain bills such as rent or maybe utilities. Case managers from the non-profit community action agency can offer referrals to Oregon and federal government benefits such as, such as LIHEAP or food stamp programs. Call (541) 298-5131. Community Meals - Is run by Saint Vincent Depaul, the national charity type organization. The mission of the group is to provide hot meals as well as free food on Friday through Sunday to anyone needing one as well as the low income. Dial 296-9566.

FISH Food Bank - Receive food up to 12 times per year. The charity works in close cooperation with other local charities, faith groups, businesses, mom-profits, government programs and community members, FISH Food Bank helps alleviate hunger by distributing free food, groceries, and other commodities regularly and on an emergency basis to any and all who are hungry. Hood River County Christmas Project - To provide assistance by offering groceries and food. They can focus on holiday meals, such as Christmas and Thanksgiving food and meals as well. In addition, get children's gifts during the Christmas holidays, and the aid is offered to low-income families living in Hood River County Oregon. Phone (541) 354-2865.

 

 

 

 

WGAP Food Banks - This food pantry will help to prevent hunger by providing food to individuals and families in need in the community.

Salvation Army - The branch is located at 623 E. 3rd St.. They may have limited funds for paying rent, energy bills, a thrift store, a soup kitchen and food pantry. There are also seasonal resources, and this range from free holiday meals or Christmas gifts, and other support. Health and medical bill assistance

The following community and dental clinics can provide low cost or free medical care to the low income and uninsured in the region.

Free legal aid and assistance

Get help with civil legal problems and issues from Oregon Legal Services. Call 1-800-228-6958. Some of the civil matters they can provide help with include foreclosure counseling, housing, access to government programs, welfare, health, disability, consumer, predatory lending, domestic matters, and more.
