Hernando County Salvation Army emergency assistance programs.

Financial help, low cost sales from the Family Store, case management, and other support is provided by the Hernando County Salvation Army. The charity not only offers everything from rent or electric bill help to free food, clothes, Christmas toys or school supplies, but they also advice struggling residents. The Christian, faith based church – charity helps the less fortunate in the county.

The Salvation Army, with a Family Store and Social Service office in Spring Hill Florida, relies on the generosity of donors as well as volunteers. Those resources allow it to operate with the goal of helping the less fortunate, seniors, the disabled, and poor. Both financial help is combined with programs focused around stability and self-sufficiency.

Financial help in Hernando County

Every Salvation Army center does it best to provide emergency funds to some qualified clients who are facing an extreme hardship. But the money is limited, and many applicants need to be turned down or referred to another agency.

When funding is available, the Hernando County Salvation Army can provide (1) emergency funds to stop homelessness, including for rent, electric or utility bills, and mortgages. There may also be (2) free vouchers to pay for medications, fans for the hot summer in Hernando County or medical equipment. Another focus of the Salvation Army is around (3) self-sufficiency, and this is when the charity offers free gasoline vouchers, bus passes, or rides from volunteers. Other financial assistance may be offered as well on case by case basis (including from FEMA grants), as funding allows, for paying certain bills.

A client choice food pantry and free clothing bank are also on site. The Hernando County Salvation Army works to provide basic needs to the community. This includes free food, clothes for work or summer, hygiene supplies, diapers, free infant formula and more. The food pantry and clothing closet offer this support.

Many other resources are available as well. The Salvation Army case workers in Hernando County try to take a holistic approach to helping the family get the assistance they need. Only one small part of the approach is offering financial help for paying bills, rent, etc. Other social services include the following.

Free Christmas, Thanksgiving, and School supply programs. These range from Angel Tree to holiday turkeys, backpacks and school supplies for students, Easter candy, and more.

Drug and alcohol rehabilitation is from the Adult Rehabilitation center. The Salvation Army works with non-profit and private companies in the Hernando County region to help those impacted by substances get clean, find housing and employment, and get the support they need.

Adult Centers are for anyone who needs advice, a kind ear, and other support. The Salvation Army helps with any issues that are facing adults in the community.

Low cost Family Store – This is a thrift operation. It helps people buy low cost goods, ranging from furniture to kitchen utensils, bedding, toys, and more.

Referrals and case management – This is a focus of the Salvation Army in Hernando County. Since resources are so limited, much of what they give out is directing people to local assistance programs, including from the government. This may be HUD housing, USDA meals, SNAP food stamps, and more.

Senior care – With the large number of elderly in Hernando County, the Salvation Army can focus on this. There are Meals on wheels services, supportive housing and apartment programs, trips to the doctors from volunteers, and other aid.

This is only a sampling of what the Salvation Army can do. They offer those programs as well as advocate on behalf of the less fortunate and poor. Even when funds or other assistance is not available, they can refer clients to other resources in Hernando County. The main address is 3570 US Hwy 19 N,. Spring Hill, FL 34606. Or call (352) 666-9009.
