While some of the counties are not as populated and people may need to drive a distance to apply, there are still several churches, non-profits, and government assistance programs that can help with paying bills, health care, housing, back rent, and other emergency expenses. They may also offer free services, ranging from school supplies to dental care, food from a pantry, or gasoline vouchers for work.

Financial assistance programs for bills and basic needs

Salvation Army has several branches in the region. The Hall County Service Unit can provide one or more of the following. Get emergency assistance to persons and low income families in a crisis situation. Support is provided and includes free food, clothing, lodging, utility bill and rent assistance, referrals to other comprehensive crisis centers and Georgia programs, or counseling.
The Salvation Army also provides seasonal help. This may be free Christmas toys from Angel Tree or fans during the summer. A free back to school supply drive and Thanksgiving programs is offered too. Examples of what may be offered includes funds for rent to prevent homelessness, free food, holiday and Christmas assistance, and clothing. Some of the churches, charities, and centers that focus on groceries or given out food include these. There are many other government resources for the low income, poor, immigrants, and children. Non-profits will even go over the TEFAP emergency food assistance program.

As indicated above, the non-profit offers emergency financial aid in the northeastern part of the state, but a focus is always on feeding children, seniors, and the community at large. Health care from free community clinics
Good News Clinics - This local community clinic offers free primary medical care and other forms of support to the low-income individuals in Hall County. There are also resources for the indigent, uninsured, homeless and those who have very limited are absolutely no medical insurance. So patients can save a substantial amount of money on their medical bills.
Services are for those who cannot afford medical care on their own. In addition to offering primary dental and medical care, the clinics also provide services such as prescription medications. Medlink Georgia – A large number of medical services are offered. The sites and clinics are community practices, serving everyone from babies, teenagers to the elderly, including those with public as well as private health insurance. There are other medical and dental services in Hall, Dawson, and other counties. Everything from dental care (cleanings and extractions) to pharmaceutical assistance, transportation for the homebound and more. As one example of a high demand service, there is general free financial help to pay medical bills.
Community action agency
Ninth District Opportunity, Inc. supports the entire region, and is the community action agency to call for assistance. While more details are below, the primary purpose of this non-profit agency is to work in partnership with government programs and local non-profits.
Low-income people can gain access to opportunities leading toward Self-Development, get immediate financial assistance, and gain Self-Reliance & Self-Determination. Some of the services provide by this agency include rent, utility bill, prescription medications and rent assistance. Also provides qualified individuals with job training, food distribution, employment services, debt and budget counseling.
Food assistance is provided from emergency pantries, vouchers, and food cards/stamp. At the same time that meals and groceries are offered, participants need to sign up for self-sufficiency and counseling. The application process can be expedited too, and find fast track food stamp emergency applications.
Medications – Receive assistance in obtaining reduced priced or free medications from pharmaceutical programs and drug companies. This is only offered for patients in life threatening situations.
Head Start and Early Head Start are funded by Georgia and the federal government. The programs provide high quality and comprehensive early childhood and family development services to children from low-income households. Children also get free dental and medical care too.
Financial assistance can be provided by Ninth District Opportunity in a very limited number of situations. It is only offered as well if someone is faced with a crisis. People need to have a loss of income (such as job loss or medical emergency) or an unexpected expense beyond their control. Rent assistance and housing aid – If you are faced with imminent eviction, apply for short-term homeless prevention and rapid re-housing assistance. Any clients for this housing program will also be required to participate in an in-depth case management or counseling plan too.
Heating bills - Qualifying households in the region can receive a onetime payment or cash grant of up to $350.00 towards paying their primary heating source or bills.
Job training and employment – The Georgia Department of Human Services works with Ninth District Opportunity. A focus is on TANF recipients with employment related needs. They can access workshops and job placement assistance.
Homeless services - Those that need assistance with permanent placement can get information on shelters or government grants for paying security deposits and other costs. Programs from NDO community action help the very low income in Hall, White, and nearby counties locate safe and affordable apartments.
Weatherization is run from this community action agency. Qualifying low income and senior households can receive help with making their homes more energy efficient. Get minor home repairs and free conservation measures to your home. This can include improvements such as insulation, air sealing in attic areas, caulking, window repair, door repair, replacement of broken window panes, dense-pack wall insulation, door sweeps, and weather stripping.
