Several food banks, soup kitchens and free emergency food pantries in Alachua County and Gainesville Florida can provide temporary assistance. There is emergency groceries or hot meals for the needy, as well as additional supplemental food, commodities or household supplies and meals to anyone in need of assistance. Many of the families who use the services of a food bank near them do so for the first time as they may be struggling to get by following a serious illness, job loss, or a death in the family. Many of the pantries run programs that provide assorted meats, produce, baked goods, fresh fruits and vegetables at no cost to local families. There are also free Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas meals and food baskets in the Gainesville region. They hold our weekly distributions on Mondays from 12 -2 at the Bronson location. Likewise, they deliver food throughout North Central Florida multiple days of the week, the locations and schedules vary and can be found on their Facebook page. Administers a couple programs known as Temporary Emergency Food. As the name implies provides emergency meals, groceries, and food boxes. Another government program known as Supplemental Food can help the low income, seniors, elderly, and children meet their nutritional needs.
