Alachua and Gainesville free food pantries.

Several food banks, soup kitchens and free emergency food pantries in Alachua County and Gainesville Florida can provide temporary assistance. There is emergency groceries or hot meals for the needy, as well as additional supplemental food, commodities or household supplies and meals to anyone in need of assistance. Many of the families who use the services of a food bank near them do so for the first time as they may be struggling to get by following a serious illness, job loss, or a death in the family. Many of the pantries run programs that provide assorted meats, produce, baked goods, fresh fruits and vegetables at no cost to local families. There are also free Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas meals and food baskets in the Gainesville region. In addition, many of the Alachua County food pantries also have volunteers who work with non-profit agencies that provide food and household supplies to the growing number of seniors, low income, unemployed, and homeless individuals and families.

Volunteers can also help people access other resources. For example, get help in applying for SNAP food stamps, access clothing closets, get diapers, and other aid.

They hold our weekly distributions on Mondays from 12 -2 at the Bronson location.  Likewise, they deliver food throughout North Central Florida multiple days of the week, the locations and schedules vary and can be found on their Facebook page.  Administers a couple programs known as Temporary Emergency Food. As the name implies provides emergency meals, groceries, and food boxes. Another government program known as Supplemental Food can help the low income, seniors, elderly, and children meet their nutritional needs.

Just a sampling of the programs and resources offered include a free food pantry, clothing closet, holiday meals (such as Thanksgiving and Christmas) and from time to time may have funds to pay electric bills or rent expenses. The Salvation Army is a Christian, faith based charity that helps the poor, unemployed, vulnerable and others. Find everything from free food from a pantry to household supplies like detergent, soap, toilet paper and more. A major, regional non-profit. Free food, produce, canned meats, dairy and more is offered. They partner with churches and charities to feed the low income. There are also Meals on Wheels for seniors or the homebound and help for migrant workers too. They are part of Feeding America.
