Rental assistance Frederick County.

Locate emergency rental assistance from charities, churches, and government agencies in Frederick County. Several organizations provide financial help, case management, and even homeless prevention or rapid rehousing programs to low-income families, single mothers, the elderly or disabled. Rent help can be combined with security deposit assistance, budgeting classes, grant money, loans, and even housing stability.

Housing assistance in Frederick County Maryland can include some or all of the following. Non-profits and/or charities may offer limited funds to pay back rent, free motel vouchers, furniture, utility help. Pro-bono and/or volunteer lawyers can provide free legal aid to stop an eviction as well as landlord-tenant mediation services.

In addition, the Public Housing Authority provides low-income apartments or homes and section 8 HUD vouchers. There are also eviction prevention programs from the government that may include loans or personal hardship grant money to assist with rent. Find more details below.

Housing Authority of the County and City of Frederick offers several programs. They operate the section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program, which is an income-based rent subsidy. There is also budgeting, financial coaching, assistance for people with HIV/AIDs from HOPWA and more. Emergency section 8 vouchers may be offered for the elderly and/or disabled. Salvation Army in Frederick County offers emergency financial assistance, including for rent or utilities. They also have a homeless shelter, free motel vouchers, and transitional housing. St. John's Regional Conference is part of Saint Vincent de Paul. The main parish is at 114 East Second Street, Frederick MD, 21701. Eviction prevention can include money for paying back rent or utilities. Other financial help or support is offered in an as needed basis. Dial 301-662-4676.

Frederick County DSS (Department of Social Services) offers cash aid, grants, and other rent help or rehousing services. There may also mortgage or foreclosure help and more.  Call 301-600-2410. Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs has a center that can help the low-income, vulnerable and others. Contact the Financial Assistance Service Center for applications to rent help, security deposit assistance, storage cost payments and more. There are multiple offices as noted below. Glade Valley Community Services only helps residents of Walkersville feeder school area. There may be money for partial rent or housing payments from the Emergency Relief Fund. Or resources are limited and applications for financial help or rent assistance are assessed on a case by case basis. Call 301-845-0213.

SOAR, or Supporting Older Adults through Resources, only helps seniors in Frederick County, retirees and the elderly over the age of 65. Call 240-575-9665. Rent help may be provided with in home care, loans, home repairs and other social services.

St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church operates the Outreach for the Needy program from 9190 Church Street, Union Bridge MD, 21791. Eviction prevention programs cover immediate rental assistance to grants for utility or water bills. Or get furniture from the thrift store for a low-income tenant. Maryland Legal Aid of Frederick County has volunteer and pro-bono lawyers. Free legal aid around housing needs, including unsafe housing, lack of landlord repairs, eviction defense services and more. Call 410-951-7777.

Homeless shelters and transitional housing in Frederick County

Advocates for Homeless Families operates income-based homes and rapid rehousing from 216 Abrecht Place, Frederick MD, 21701. This can help pay first months rent or security deposits. Telephone - 301-662-2003.
