How does the foreclosure assistance program work?

They will negotiate and explore all possible solutions with the lender in order to find a solution that will benefit both parties. Any agreement that the counselor wants to make with your lender will also need to be approved by the homeowner, so you will be involved in the decision making process as well.
If it is decided that a loan workout is possible, the mortgage counselor will coordinate and formalize the agreement. They will work closely with you and assist with filling out any applications or forms that may be required by the mortgage servicer or lender to move forward. The most common solution to a mortgage crisis will be a loan modification, reduction in interest rate, or the homeowner may need to enter into some other assistance program.

Attorneys that are part of the NID-HCA Legal Services team will partner with the Housing Rights Advocates Team, and together these two parties will work closely with NID-HCA mortgage counselors to reach the best results for the client.
